now bare in mind the bike has the switch on the bars in place and the 2 lights under the headlight has a lead to each lamp can i, take the 2 lamps off then i have 2 leads can i tape one of the leads up to protect it and hide it away in the bike then with the other lead connect that to the led light bar mount the bar and its ready to go

any help

In short, yes.

I'm not sure if your current lights are switched through a relay or not, but I would expect the 8" LED bar to draw far less current than the dual conventionals. It's easy enough to figure out from the wattage rating of the lights; do you know what the lights are rated at?

not sure AVGeek,
had a few people sy its ok, the two yamaha spots are the halogen yamaha ones fitted by yamaha the piaa switch is mounted on the handle bar
all yamaha, about £300 worth, i didn,t want to take it all off to be honest and bear in mind i have the wiring all the ready for a 8" led bar i thought use it.
also if the led bar fails i can go straight back mount the 2 yamaha lights again, the 2 lights have a cable each that lucky the lights come apart and the 2 wires connect to bulb inside, so if i pull the one light off basically hide that lead, then the other lead that will have to spade connectors on it mount the led bar same place connect the 2 leads up and press the switch mounted on the handle bars job done.

as i say then its a 30 minute job to swop back if i want to

I would just remove the second wire all together and use your primary wire from the switch to run the LED light bar. The lamp is going to use far less voltage than the halogen spotlights, so there will be no stress on the wire or circuitry.

I had two Warn halogen lights on my Jeep. The Warn system used a remote to turn the lights on/off. No wires through the firewall, and no switch to mount. I liked that part so I kept it, and just wired two LED lights to the original wires. I had considered going the "light bar" route, but I found individual spot/flood combos for much cheaper. I had planned on just capping off the two wires that went to the second light.

The lamp in your link is rated at 30 watts, so draws 2.5 amps. Each of your halogen lights draws 4.5 amps each, so you have plenty of headroom running the new light bar from one existing lamp feed. Just make sure you change the fuse for a more suitable one given the reduced current draw of the new light.

wow tallpaul,
never gave the fuse a thought, i don,t even know in this yamaha spot light wiring loom where the fuse or loom is on the bike i wouldn,t know what to swop the fuse for, 2 guys i know local have done this and have had no issue with the swop over with just swopping the lights

taullpaul,

i would think that the fuse MUST be in that small block of fuses that the 12v auxillary socket fuse is in as these lights were fitted by yamaha using that spot light socket thats on the bike for them, so there must be a fuse in that block for aux lights do you think

Good observation!

Hi Rob. If this is the same as your harness then there is a small square box right next to the factory plug. This may well be the fuse.

right that white plug on the right of picture must be the plug that fits into the wiring harness plug as the other end has 2 plugs that both the light leads fit into, so yes there must be a small fuse in that little box, ok so if the fuse is higher in that for the halogen bulbs were fitted but now there is a lesser light fitted ie my led bar, why would that if lesser blow that fuse mark

To be honest Rob i understand more about women than electrics and that ain't much. I would have thought it will be ok. Could you not have left the fogs on and added the lightbar ?
