Got a 2012 Super Ten a few weeks back and have put ~1200mi on it so far. This thing make my Ural feel small under me.

I think it will be a while before I get into the dirt:
1) Street tyres
2) It's tall for me, only 30" inseam
3) It doesn't lean too far before I can't hold it up.
4) Been a long time since riding a 180 two stroke in the dirt on easy stuff.

It has 16,500 (edit: miles. 26,600 km) or so on it - what sort of problems/noises should I be looking for?

In neutral at idle there does seem to be a sort of rattling - timing chain or clutch perhaps.
Gear changes can be hard to hit. Like the lever doesn't want to move at times - no gear grinding, just resistance.

Welcome :)
About the gear change...it is probably because the shift lever, needs to be taken off the shaft it sits on, and be cleaned and greased.
The rattle...yes, might be the clutch, the gen 1 seems to have some rattle from the basket, and vibration at some rpm.
But also the CCT have some example to fail. But useally at much higher mileage.

(only 28" inseam, you will get used to it ;-) )

Greetings from a little east of you in Hilliard. Welcome! It's a great bike, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I agree with Nikolajsen's answers. I tend to lube the shifter pivot a couple times a year.

Welcome from metro Seattle and congrats on the new [to you] '12! About the noise, these things sound like an old worn out diesel tractor at idle. You'll get used to it.

30" inseam here too...touching the ground is so over-rated. Enjoy the bike, you won't be disappointed.

Welcome aboard, if you need any help with the forum, let myself or checkswrecks know. As far as engine noise, this one is on the noisier end of the spectrum. The one thing to watch for is the CCT, best to check it at the first valve check interval at 26K miles. There are a few threads here about what to listen for and how to change it out.

Also a Gen 1 owner, welcome :)

Rattle is very likely the clutch. The basket was upgraded for the Gen 2 bikes and are much quieter and smoother.

Agree, the shift pivot needs greasing.

 My Gen II is a noisy little pig! Doesn't bother ME, but damn, that's funny. But, Black_Magic, fret not, she'll feel lighter the more you get used to her. I only have a 31" inseam, and as long as I can get on leg solid on the ground, all's well; haven't had a problem....yet.

It's been a little discouraging as to how many times I couldn't hold it up - in the garage, at work, and in the grass after a 400 mile day (With Chicago traffic and a couple hours working on a machine, fatigue had a lot to do with that one) - every time at a standstill.

Getting better at having feet/foot down and keeping balance. Lot of fun riding so far - need to get it into more interesting roads one of these weekends (SE Ohio probably). WAY too easy to go faster than I want to! Might get a cruise control on it in a few months. It's a lot of bike for only being licenced 11 months.

It was renting a BMW 1200GS in Vegas that 'made me' get her. $210 for 24hours - 485 mile loop up to St George UT and west of there. Well worth it!

The bitch (see pic before freaking out :p) and I love the Ural, and the Tenere is just for me.
