I think the fine dust can get trough..
So, depending on how/where you ride, bad idea.

Thanks Nikolajsen. You are the 2nd person to tell me that so maybe I should try to find an original carb to airbox rubber after all. Thanks

Agree with Nikolajsen.
If not an original, then a well oiled and often-maintained oiled foam filter is still very effective.

There are a couple on ebay now in the $52-55 range. One with the airbox.

Simular if not identical to the K&N filters that are on most older motorcycles here in the USA. I've run the K&N for over 200,000 miles. Only good thing about them is they make removing the carbs much easier. Other than that, if you can repair the stock airbox setup, you are much better off.
They flow much more dirt than a stock airbox, if it rains and they get wet, they mess up the air mixture, if it's windy, wind swirls around and they mess up the air mixture. I only ran them because I didn't have the stock airbox, and they can be expensive and hard to get.

Wow. Thank you folks. You're all so helpful. I will have a look at that link on re-using old rubber and will also have another search on ebay. Thank you! :)

Hi folks.
I recently bought a Suzuki T500 1972 model (mid life crisis and I loved the colour).
So..here is the question. The airbox to carb rubber has gone hard and doesn't fit properly.
I'm thinking about putting a couple of these on (see the link). One guy I chatted too thought it was a bad idea. What do you all think? Your thoughts are much appreciated! Ta

Those T500s were pretty nice bikes, I think they were called Titans over here. Those individual open filters always required some carburetor tuning, bigger jets and raising the needles. You may want to take this into consideration before you make your purchase. It's not a big deal to tune the carbs but just so you know what you're getting into. Good luck with the new bike and post a picture!
