The super tenere has got a temporary companion! As some of you know I buy and sell motorcycles (and other things) for my small company. It’s a bit of a hobby. Recently I bought a DR800 BIG and I’m starting to get attached too it. That bike is real fun to ride! 1 cilinder 800cc engine and a big front wheel. Very mechanical bike compared to the S10.

Had to look that one up and wow.
Bet you could mix a can of paint on an 800cc single.
Haha those were my first thoughts too. But apparently it has a well counterweighted crankshaft. Being a single you have to keep the revs above 3000 and then it’s pretty smooth! Obviously not straight 4 smooth, but enough to make it a great travel companion.

Suzuki's first real Adventure bike & more civilised than one would think, but sales were poor, certainly here in the UK. Good fun by all accounts, but IIRC they somehow lack punch once you get into the mid range - personally I preferred the old Super10 750, albeit a tad tall for many.

These days, it's the old Honda AT that seems to get all the attention.

Here in the Netherlands it’s the AT, the DR800 and the S10 750. All those bikes are getting a lot of interest. Even the CB’s and similar bike’s are going up pricewise.

Dr Big It is a very good motorcycle, and it would be an excellent companion to the S10 ... if you already had it from before or even better, if you bought it 0km and you still have it. But if you buy it today, (any: AT 750 / ST750 and the same DR800) the first thing you will notice will be the lack of power and the softness of the suspensions. The modern 700-800 (KTM/BMW)..of the early 2010-2013 models ... I think it would be a better companion to the S10.
Of course it is a personal opinion of mine (I had an AT650 and 2 AT750s)

The soft suspension is true but I think it will be very capable off road. Narrow build, long travel suspension, light, 21” front wheel. Enough power for off road, but modern day traffic maybe not. And exactly all those things make me happy, everybody in a rush in their modern cars and I’m just moving at my own pace. Just me and the mechanics..

We really get gypped here in the US when it comes to certain models of Japanese motorcycles as well as cars and trucks....

I agree, but, from what I've read here, we get better/more color choices. . . . . as far as the Tenere goes anyway. I think the US safety regs, and the EPA, keep a lot of models out.

Interesting looking bike. Makes me think of the current DL1000. Clearly the same bloodline.

Shame we never got it here. The looks grow on you pretty quickly.
