Hi folks,
I have a 2012 standard setup,I’m recently noticing the rear suspension bottoming out,I adjusted the suspension and checked tyre pressure and it’s fine.
I’m thinking that the rear suspension needs a service I religiously do my fork rebuilds every two years but done nothing to the rear apart from linkage lubricant
Tyres is Road pilot 6

How many miles ?

It's probably just worn out....... Its a common issue for folks that are "In-tune" with their suspension....... You have several options.... Ive read there are people that can rebuild your stock. You can get a 'take off' shock......... or you can look into new or used 'aftermarket' equipment that was designed and developed to be rebuilt anytime needed.

The aftermarket set is the best. Getting it set up for YOU, what you carry & how you ride will give you the best experience........

The spring keeps it off the ground, the oil controls how fast it moves. Any sign that it has leaked? It's usually very messy. Are you sure the tension knob is still working? Many many have stripped out over the years.

With all the Road Racing going on in Ireland surely there must be someone who can rebuild the stock shock ?
When you say bottoming out do you mean compressing beyond its stroke as if that's the case it will bend and it will not be worrh rebuilding. If it was me i would be more interested in paying for a remote preload and good damping adjustment. And a manufacturer with good customer service.

I paid about £650 for my Wilbers 10 years ago. Shocks are not cheap but they are doing a lot of work and are worth paying for something good.

When I had my GS I ended up replacing the rear shock on it. I went with Ohlins, they set it up to your specific needs. WOW is all I can say.
It transform that bike and can honestly say It was the best riding motorcycle I have ever rode to date. Even better then my S10.
Comes at a price but worth it.

My recent experience on my 2011 , the rear shock can’t be fully serviced , no means to re-gas. I went with a Nitron shock , very pleased so far.

I’ve had a Hagon shock with a “heavy” spring for the past 6 years, which has been a great improvement as I only ride two-up. They were £300 for years, but now £400 or so.

There is a difference between i can not do it and it can not be done. Many people told me my Triumph shock could not be done. MCT Stowmarket England said no problem. It depends on your actual skill set.

Got a feeling I was recommended to him , possibly by you. Very helpful on the phone but said he couldn’t do it. Offered me a Nitron , that’s what I bought but through another supplier.
