Hey there, Folks!

Just wondering how many here are planning to attend the upcoming MotoGP event at the new Austin "Circuit of the Americas" in April 2013. The event will be over the 19th - 21st weekend, and should be a hell of a show. Having been to a number of the recent MotoGP events at Laguna Seca the past few years I can honestly tell you that seeing a MotoGP bike at full chat is a memorable and not to be duplicated experience!

More info here: http://www.circuitoftheamericas.com/moto-gp

If any of you Super Tenere owners are going it might be a great place for a get-together to meet some fellow forum members in person. I'll be there, though most likely not on my Super Tenere, as some of my family lives in Austin and we'll be meeting up with them for dinner, etc. during the weekend.

Any ideas out there for meeting up at the track one day?

Thanks, and I hope to see ya' there! ::008::

I'm going. I'm planning on arriving Saturday. I'll probably just get a motel room somewhere. I'm sitting in Turn 15 and parking in the close in bike lot. I have not decided rather I'm riding the S10 or the Busa.

I am working right now to put this together. If I do, we'll motel in Austin and likely buy the turn 15 pass.

We are trying to set up time to ride TX. You Texans talk to me about riding near Austin and or Texas Hill Country, where can we go ride? We will trailer down, April is still dicey in the Upper Midwest. It aint worth getting caught in ice or snow. Looking for camping and riding recommendations for after the races. Will have a truck and large toy hauler so no tent camp grounds.

PM or post up linky's other will need as well.

CoTa is looking for more volunteers to work as flag marshals at the MotoGp this month.

If you are interested, call Jeanie at CoTA 512.655.6591 or email cornermarshal@circuitoftheamericas.com

My wife and I have done this at the last two Indy MotoGP. This is some long days at the track, but also a lot of fun.

If you want to get closer to MotoGP than most mere mortals, this is a way to do it. ::024::

Motorcycle riding in the Texas Hill Country is among the very best in the United States, with some roads true classics, like the wonderful "Twisted Sisters" - 337, 336, & 335. There are others, too, like 39 out of Hunt and Ingram, 16 out of Kerrville, 473 east out of Comfort to 281, Willow City Loop outside of Fredericksburg, 1376 out of Luckenbach, Old San Antonio Road through Bankersmith, etc., etc., etc.... And dozens more. If you really want to ride a lot of the Hill Country I would suggest you take a couple of days to base out of someplace like Kerrville, where you would be more central to all the best riding.

I would also suggest you get one of these ASAP - http://www.butlermaps.com/Motorcycle-Road-Maps/15/Texas-Hill-Country-Map - as it's arguably the best and most complete Texas Hill Country map available. It's also printed on some pretty incredible stuff, and it's wonderfully useful even if you like using a GPS as it has numerous GPS coordinates printed on it for some of the more obscure places. Well worth the money.

Here's some links:

And here's some "Must Stop" spots:

http://www.friocanyonmotorcyclestop.com/ (cool little motorcycle hang-out with great food)
http://www.lonestarmotorcyclemuseum.com/ (incredible motorcycle museum with great food, too)

There's a ton more, but these should get you started. If you have any specific questions, just ask! :)

Hope some of this helps!

A Google search will yield you tons more... Just type in "Texas Hill Country".

Been Googling like mad. Was looking for local context so thank you very much. Can you suggest a campground in the Kerrville area? I will have a sizable toy hauler so a primitive tent site is not in the cards.

Otherwise this is exactly what I was looking for, some specific roads known to be popular etc. My buddy will be on his C14, so the boondocks are not on the menu this trip, I still might decide to bring the FJR because of this.

Thanks again!

Glad to be of some help, Bigbore4! ::008::

As for campgrounds... Well, these days I *camp* with my American Express card, like a couple of weekends ago when I was up in the Hill Country riding and stayed at the YO Ranch Resort in Kerrville (http://www.yoresort.com/). It's a great place if you want to hotel it while you're there.

However, I have heard great things about this place if you're camping, want cabins, or have an RV - http://www.koyoteranch.com/

They are supposed to be ultra-motorcycle friendly, and the place is on a terrific section of one of fun roads there (Hwy 16 between Kerrville and Medina). It's just outside of Kerrville, so restaurants and stores are nearby, and is in a wonderful centralized location for some of the best riding and exploring in the area.

If you want to be a bit further out west Leakey, TX is a cool little town, and one of the most revered motorcycle-friendly spots was there - the D'Rose Inn (http://www.droseinn.com/) - but sadly the owner has decided to close it down and retire a bit for a while, but he has heartily recommended and supported a new venture there in Leakey, the "Historic Leakey Inn"... I don't know anything about but what I've read, but you can check out their web site - http://www.leakeyinn.com/ - and I think they may have some contacts for some campsites and cabins in the area that are motorcycle friendly.

Actually, there are truly a *TON* of cabins and campgrounds in the area, and for the most part the ones that are "motorcycle friendly" will note that on their web sites. The cabins I used to stay at south of Leakey have now closed down or I would have tried to hook you up with them.

I hunt around a bit more and see if I find anything interesting, but I know folks who swear by the "Koyote" so you may want to give it a try!

I'm going to be in a hotel near Bastrop for the MotoGP weekend (http://lostpines.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels-lostpines/index.jsp?null), but will be in my car as my girlfriend and I are riding up there and will be spending time with my son and his family. For that I need four wheels! :D

However, I'd enjoy meeting up with any of you I can while we're all at the races. Maybe we all ought to set a time and place to meet inside the track facility on Saturday or something... ::017::

@Dallara

Well we are committed. I waited to long to buy tickets so we are in turn 1 area.

I normally camp with Visa, at cheap mom and pop's, but this trip I borrowed an RV toy hauler as we cannot depend on the early spring weather up here to get in and out. Snowed a ton yesterday and today again as a mater of fact.

We are motelling for the race at Red Roof north in Austin. I will review what you sent in more detail, but I like the sound of Koyote. A lot.

I will check back in here before we roll, otherwise PM me or email at Bigbore4@comcast.net.

Well, that time is drawing near...

I'm heading up the country to our digs near the track next Wednesday, though I'll be in my car this trip.

I can see from the thread that Bigbore4, avc8130, swampyvt, okiegtrider, protondecay123, Andrew, oilfield trash, Coastalcop, gunner, and I'm sure some others will be in attendance. Any of you fols want to try and meet up for a few minutes at the track?

For those interested here's a couple of activities that'll be happening leading up to the races:

- Ben Spies will be at Ducati Austin (http://www.motoaustin.com/) from 1:15pm to 1:45pm on Thursday, April 18th
- Kevin Schwantz will be at Ducati Austin (http://www.motoaustin.com/) from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, April 18th
- Ducati of Austin will be having an "Open House" all that day and a "Happy Hour" that evening.

- AF-1 Racing will be having parties on Friday, April 19th, and Saturday, April 20th, at their Austin Shop (http://www.vespaaustin.com/) from 7:00pm until 1:00am. Drinks provided by "Deep Eddy" Vodka (http://www.deepeddyvodka.com/) and there will be food, other refreshments, and live band entertainment both nights. Ed promises to have the "Deep Eddy Girls" and other "umbrella girls" there, too! Please RSVP to christi@af1racing.com if you plan to attend so they can get a head count.

- The "Circuit of the Americas" will be hosting a free "Track Walk" on Friday, April 19th, for all 3-day ticket holders from 6:45pm to 7:45pm on the front straight between Turn 20 and Turn 1. Access is limited to the straightaway only and no food or drinks will be allowed. You can access the Main Straight on the west side of the Main Grandstand, near Turn 20.

More as I found out... :)

Meet up with some of the people on the forum sounds great. Wife and I are heading down early Thursday. We are working as start line marshals, so I'm thinking we'll have some free time prior to race day. I'll keep an eye on this space to see who checks in and what is going on in the evenings. Looking forward to seeing CoTA! ::012::

I'm heading up that way tomorrow (Wednesday), and picking up my media credentials on Thursday. I'm "working" (though it's not really "work" to me!) for an ESPN radio show, so I'll have to try and at least snag an interview or two... :D

Drop me a PM if you like and we can exchange cell phone numbers or the like. That said, I'll be pretty easy to spot... Just look for the rather portly, nearly bald, gray-bearded old gent in shorts, a Hawaiian-style print shirt with some sort of hat, and lugging a gray-and-black camera backpack. That'll be me! ;)

You'll love COTA. It's well and truly a "World Class" facility! ::008::

Finished up a few hours ago with day one of the MotoGP at CoTA. Dallara said the the place is well and truly a first class facility, and that is surely the truth. It's new, its clean, its spacious, a really amazing place.

The track is awesome, the bikes are awesome, I'm beat, but had an oustanding day from start to finish, and I got to meet Dallara, who is my message board hero! Great guy, who did me a good turn today. Thank you sir! ::008::
