nothing like a local to help the visitors find their way. sites that have restaurants are a positive thing . I carry food and cooking stuff but prefer eating at local places , use my food only when other places not available .
I find staying in motel hotel on the trip suites me and then I tent camp at my destination. I guess I don't like packing and repacking my tent each day.

Man, I've been itching to get to a Tenere get together for years to meet up with some of the characters from this forum but it hasn't worked out for some reason or other.

The Black Hills SD area is an awesome location for a Tenere Rally offering many types of riding both street, gravel, and dirt. I'm from ND and have attended one day of a Sturgis rally, two FJR rallies based out of Spearfish SD and several Dual Sport rallies based out of several camp grounds in the Black Hills area.

We've used the Nemo Guest Ranch for a couple of our fall Dual Sport Rallies and its worked fine. There is several guest cabins for rent and lots of room for tent camping. Nemo is just South of Sturgis on a very popular Nemo highway so prices and availability may be expensive and hard to come by if your within a week before or after the Aug. 6th - 15th Sturgis Rally. The only down fall I can think of at Nemo is its a little bit of a drive to Sturgis or Rapid City if you want to eat elsewhere or pickup provisions.

I know there is already a ton of ideas out there but I'll throw out a couple others of locations we've used for a Dakota Dual Sport Riders rallies. Two other possibilities are Wild Bills Campground or the Fish N Fry Campground around 5 miles South of Deadwood. They both have small two bed cabins, tent sites, or RV hook ups, on site restaurant and bar . For 2021 we have our two Dual Sport Rallies scheduled for Custer Crossing Campground June 17 - 20 of June which has Tent sites, two bed cabins, RV hook ups and a on site Restaurant. Our Fall rally is scheduled just North of Custer SD at the Crazy Horse Campground which has a good size tent camping area and several two bed cabins next to the tent area. The Crazy Horse Campground has been used for the last two fall Rallys and is a favorite location for the Dakota Dual Sport Riders.

I have a couple of friends from the Dakota dual sport riders that also have Super Teneres and 4 or 5 that just purchased T7 Teneres. I've reached out to them on the dakotadualsportriders.com forum to get their input or see if they would like to join in for some local expertise.

I think there is a KOA in Deadwood. Gathering sounds great!
Everyone needs to add some dates and places and we can get a poll up.

Haha! Nice one patrick. I was just responding to eemsreno's request for suggestions for dates and places. I should've known better than to volunteer information since the first thing I learned in basic training many years ago was to "keep your head down, keep your mouth shut, and don't volunteer for anything".

I don't want to highjack eemsreno's great idea of a Black hills Tenere rally and steal his thunder but I sure as hell will assist in any way I can if he wants any type of help or assistance. He's the one that's picked up the ball and started running with it. I didn't chime in to strip the ball or call for a lateral pass.

Eemsreno, If you want any assistance just let me know.

While we are on this topic and many locked down for winter this may be of interest, there are several parts

Man, I can't get enough of riding my Beta 500 around the Black Hills Trail system and and dying thinking about hitting some of the less gnarly trails on the Tenere. I've had my Tenere down there in 15 and got a little taste of one days riding back roads and visiting fire towers.

Your not highjacking anything from me. I just wanted to get guys thinking about having a gathering anywhere. The Black Hills was just a suggestion and looked like a good place to have one.
Please if you would like don't just assist but pick up the ball and run with it.
I'm just a spectator.

Abercrombie tenere , if you take on the challenge may I suggest as I did earlier . keep this simple . pick a date (if you're the organizer you have the say ) pick a place that has enough room for an unknown group size that has tent and cabins and or rooms if possible (and no need to have to arrange a block of rooms for people to have to rent , if they know the place they can then make their on arrangements ) . food on premises or nearby is good . maybe since your in the neighborhood put to gather a list (hand outs )of paved and unpaved roads or places to see . but again keep it simple .
you will pick a date and you have to understand that it is not going to work for a percentage of those interested . may be wrong for me , oh well . you already see in the 5 pages already written to date this issue . it is simple the chance we will all make . I believe the one thing is that no one wants to be there during the sturges rally time .
simple simple is simply the best in these days of pandemic and political uncertainty .
and since this is Eemsreno brain child , let him pick the date that suits him , and you Mr.Abercrombie fill in the rest of the blanks . some will be disappointed others will not , kinda like a lottery . for me I can not think of one thing that 6 to 9 months from now that will prevent me from attending any date . now we all face life issues , money health relationships etc that influence all we plan or do . that's the way it is . simply.

If Abercrombie or anyone else isn't interested in being the organizer, I still suggest a poll for the date and place.
If you can't figure me out after being on this forum for 10 years, I'll help you out. " I was born to ride" not be an organizer.

What branch of the service? Steve (eemsreno) is a great guy, and like he said he was born to ride. I will let him tell the stories, he is better at it than I.

In all seriousness, we are all in dire need of a gathering. Weather it be a ride, rally or none of the above.

My bet is: that if you did set it up, you would not have to buy a cup of coffee or a beer for the weekend. 1st round is on me, and as a US Navy Vet, (not some green face painter like DD) you can bet my word is bond.

See you in the Dakotas!!!!!!!

There are a lot of pictures of you on this forum...are you sure you want to rule out green face paint as an option? Just sayin'...

I'm all in on putting eemsreno's rally idea together this summer. emsreno's original post and seeing all the interest in this thread has really lit a fire under my ass. The dirty fact is, hosting a Black Hills Tenere Rally has been a thought in the back of my mind for the last couple years. I would've loved to hit a Tenere get together or two to get a better idea of the vibe of this group but I don't think it will be much different from FJR and dual sport rallies i've attended. I think all you have to do is pick an interesting place to ride, venue to meet at, go ride all day, gather round afterwards drink beer and tell lies.

I like eemsreno's idea of a little poll to figure out everyone's wants and needs. Although I've participated in several rally planning polls I've never set one up so I will have to research how. Is there a poll tool or app that I've been looking at and don't see? The next thing I will need to know is what is the typical number of Tenere rally attendees so I can make sure we have enough room for tents or camp ground cabins for rent. Is the rally HQ being within a few miles of a hotel important or is everyone good with tents and campground cabins with a decent bathroom / shower house near by? Nearly every camp ground I've seen in the Black Hills has little cabins like this if you don't like tents.

as far as number of attendees ,hard to guess in good times but man to guess what's happening 6 to 9 months from now . pandemic and politics and peoples risk assessments will determine the out come . im sure there are those who are following this that are undecided and those of us who are expressing our interest who are most likely to attend if possible . an attendance probability poll might help.
bath rooms and showers are to me most important feature of a camp ground . especially for us tent guys.

Jaxon would know how many showed up in Ouray in 2013 but I would guess it hit 90.
It looks like this gathering could be big but like Madhatter said "these are strange times"
