I pulled into Team Charlotte Motorsports @ 0800 today to Demo the S10. I asked the Yammie rep if they had a Supere Tenere in the truck and he said he didn't know if they did or didn't, he allowed that since it can no longer be purchased it wouldn't surprised him if there wasn't one. Well that just great, I just rode 200 miles for nothing. I then walked over to the Star demo trailer and asked the driver if there was a Tenere in the trailer. He replied "No there isn't". Well I was beside myself, and was walking away totally dejected when the driver laughed and told me the Tenere was in the dealer shop, he unloaded the bikes last night(smart ass). Got the first ride of the morning on the S10 for a total of 47 minutes, 24 miles in the saddle. Nice mix of urban, suburban and interstate(no dirt).

Impressions:

*The ergos and seating was quite comfortable. I'm 6'1", 33" inseam and I flat foot with the seat in the high position. Had to reach a little for the handlebars, easy fix with Rox risers.
*There was quite a bit of buffeting above 65 mph on a 5 mile interstate run(the screen in low position). Scrunched down a couple of inch's and was fine. I would imagine the screen in the high position and the seat in the low position would eliminate a lot of it.
*I didn't find the throttle snatchy at all, theres a lot of torque @ low RPM's.
*I dropped the bike into 6th gear @ 30MPH and did a full throttle roll on and it didn' stutter once, just dug in and pulled.
*This bike corners with ease.
*The best thing about this bike is what it doesn't do, it doesn't fell like a 575lb. bike. I never once thought this bike was heavy. I've ridden a GS and when you ride it you know it's a 500 lb bike, the Tenere handles and feels lighter than my KLR!
*I walked away from my ride with a smile, knowing that my purchase of this bike will deliver years of reliable service and take me anywhere my KLR would take me. ;)

Why would a sales rep say that?

Thanks for the ride report.

Thanks for posting your impressions, Brntrt .

Was this bike one of the black USA models they had in TX recently or one of the blue Euro models that have been making the rounds?

Yeah it was the black one that had a sticker on it saying it was a US sample and had passed all the US EPA crap. The driver said he was recently in Houston.

He was implying that since the purchase window was closed, there might not be a reason to demo for sales reasons.

I know of three bikes within 60 miles of me that will be on the dealers floor for sale when they arrive, so i'm sure there are others.

This was always my main objection to the DL1000. Mine would buck and kick if you picked the wrong gear in many situations. The DL650 is much more forgiving, IMHO.

Great report and makes even more anxious to take delivery of my new SuperT!!!

:)

Yes the DL1000 motor will buck and jump if lugged but what a fun motor it is when ridden in the sweet spot and the sweet spot is huge, any where in the top half of the RPM range. I put 60,000 miles on mine before selling it. I always said that when/if one of the Asian big 4 came out with a comparable big dual sport with shaft drive I would buy it.
The DL650 motor is sweet but for my needs it comes up a little short.
I have owned a SV650, SV1000, SV1000S and a DL1000, love those motors.

In mid-June, jump on your bike, hit 40 E to I-77 S to Parkersburg and Rt 50 (killer ride) to Romney, WV. I'll even save you a camping spot at Jennings Randolph Lake. Problem solved!
