I guess my bike is the only good running tenere out there. Never touched a thing, 55,000 miles. Runs strong at 45 mpg all day with my fat ass on it. Guess i should get my valves checked and change the air filter and spark plugs. I thought these bikes are suppose to be bullet proof?

All sarcasm aside, i think the engine braking is high on these bikes and it creates a little jerkiness if you are less that perfect with your throttle control. I thought about a flash just for that until i spent a week on steep roads. Then I appreciated the downhill control that same braking gave me. I would never want less now. It is an excellent off road tool. If i was not gonna do much off road, then i might think about it, but i seem to be doing more and more off road these days.
Yeah on a bike where its a pita to disable the abs...that engine braking is a lifesaver on steep decents, especially if its large river rock where the abs shits the bed completely.

I am going to wire up a switch inline to the abs fuse. Its a 30A fuse so i will keep the line short and just get it up to the dash where ill install a sealed switch. I dont need to turn the abs off often, but its a pain on this bike without this mod.

So. . . . . I've noticed over the last week or so, that I have to have a "morning" wrist, and an "afternoon" wrist. Now that our morning temps are below 75F, I've noticed a difference. Either the ECU is reacting quicker, or the denser air is making more power. (I don't figure the ecu is effected by temps though) Because, the bike is accelerating "quicker" with the same throttle input. Once the sun warms the air, it's back to "normal". And, before y'all "flashers" start telling me I need to get flashed. . . . a flashed bike would act the same way. . .. . if I'm correct. So, my question to y'all is: has anybody else noticed a difference below/above 75F-ish?

I think dense cool air does cause bikes to react, usually very well. And thin air at altitude will absolutely cause the bike to make less power compared to sea level.

I was just curious if anyone else has tried this.
My two Tenere's are so smooth that I just can't get enough of riding them.
Nether bike has been flashed and I just do not see any reason to have it done, For me they just could not run better.
I would say that I'm an easy rider and to me smoothness is top pryority!!!
I usually can ride all day or even travel for a week and setting my cruise control doesn't even cross my mind.
This is a free and very easy thing to try, so if you try it and don't like a smooth bike just set it back.
I have had mine like this for a lot of miles and have never seen a disadvantage in doing it. Great fuel mileage!
You can check the setting through the dash diagnostics and it is totally within spec.

Here it is.
I loosened the screws on the TPS and cranked it all the way counter clockwise.
I never even had to lift the tank to do this. Just reached in on the right side of the bike under the tank.
It takes a security torques for the top screw and I reached in with a skinny punch and tapped the side of the bottom screw and it came loose.

Hope this helps anyone that has a jerky non smooth running bike, It is definitely worth trying. Even if you think your bike runs smooth I would try it, You can always just set it back.

I'm gonna just it to see what kind of results my bike gets. It sounds strange with some of the different results. Anybody know what security torx it takes? I looks like a tank lifting job to me. My beat up xxl hands dont'work as they did. That second bolt looks hard to get to. My mileage sucks is the main reason I'm interest. I've zeroed my pcv. and mileage is til $hit. tail pipe is has just a little brown on the tip. Looks perfect. If I was running rich it should be black.

My bike had torx T25 security screws top and bottom. I used a short torx insert with a 1/4" inch hex shank and a 1/4" box end wrench to turn it. As for lifting the tank, I lift the back of the tank by taking out the bracket under the seat and blocking it up with a 1 1/2" thick block. I synchronize my TBs like this too. Tape the insert to the wrench. The top screw is easy to get at with a nut driver.

There is a thread from July of 2014 titled "jumpy throttle fixed" that offers another solution to a smoother throttle. (sorry, I can't link it, but you can search and find it)

I have a flashed 2017 and mine is the same way . Early mornings or cooler weather during the day it runs so much better . Throttle response is crispier , it has more pick up and go ... no you not imagining things . IMO Tenere has some of the worst fuelling I have ever seen on the bike , flashed or not flashed .

I agree. Even my fuel injected Harley runs better than my '13 Super Tenere.

Same here my 2008 Honda VTX1800T fuelling seems like something from another planet comparing to ST . Folks say get a flash , calibrate your wrist , adjust throttle cables , sync the throttle bodies ... done ... everything !!! Still not even close to a good fuelling . Who in the world programed this one ?!?!

If I am out at bike events where there are demo rides I will ride anything I can get on. I really enjoy trying everything each manufacturer has to offer. May not be what I want and in some cases it turns out it is something I would like. The thing I wonder about with this talk about fueling is how many manufacturers modify the fueling or ecu's on the demo bikes to make them run super nice. I know some brands I rode didn't change anything but on the same token I would be willing to bet a weeks pay some of the bikes were changed in some form to run better than the end production bike the consumer would wind up with.

Sure would be nice if Yamaha finally fixed it but i Won’t be holding my breath waiting.
... or some factory engineer could come on the forum under some weird name and just post the downloadable map for your ECU with no emissions , rev limiters or other restrictions , smooth full power , try it at your own risk fueling map , as a DIY mod .
... now I'm really getting carried away , but it would be nice , wouldn't it ???

Right?

What a thing it would be if the perfect fuel map was just available somehow....
