Wanted to see if anyone had any guides or tips for setting up a switch for use as a trigger for a relay to do a ABS bypass. due to the three letter search issue/feature im not finding much if its already posted somewhere.

So I have a 40amp 5 pin relay, and some 10ga wire with inline 30amp fuse. I want to setup a manual switch on my dash to flick to trigger the relay to open the circuit to disable ABS when im on the rocky and loose trails here in Colorado. As I don't like the idea of a 30amp always live wire routed up to the dash. I want to have the switching done via the relay I place in the side panel and a shorter 10ga loop for that live side of things.

I would prefer a setup that only has power going to the lower amperage side of things that would act as my trigger power for flicking the relay to open when I hit the switch.

hope I'm making sense, thanks

only issue here is it doesnt really show how to use a relay for wiring it up only discuses it being a better way to do so, it shows the wiring it directly in/through a switch which is a bit unsafe in the long run for a always live 30amp line. I did post on it it for hopefully getting a response from one of the people that stated they were able to use a relay to do so.

OK, playing with my bench power and a voltmeter, i think i got it sorted. just need to find a switched power to tap in to power my switch. Likely going to tap into the heated grips circuit for that as its only a tiny low amp draw used. video i quickly recorded of my mock up

I disagree that it is unsafe, 30A run that is.

I would not use a momentary relay. If you do, the break will cause the ABS unit to shut off hence disabling the ABS. But it then re-applies power to the unit. However the ABS wont "reset" until the power is (via key switch) is cycled off then back on. I dont know if any damage can occur to the unit when it "fails" due to a power loss, then it is reapplied and left in that state until it can restart. But I am not willing to find out.

Just my $.02

im using a toggle switch so it will be just flicked off and stay that way till ready to re-enable ABS and cycle the key, so it will be the same effect as just pulling the fuse without having to physically pull the fuse.

Havent heard of any issues with the abs circuit being de-energized (switch inline with 30amp fuse or pulling fuse) causing damage to the unit.

I would just add the toggle switch and be done. And the only time current is running through the switch to run the pump for just a second or two at most. It’s not like running auxiliary lighting for an hour.

Well if no wire diagram came with the switch then put a ohm meter on it and test. My guess is red= power in black= ground for the green light and yellow = the switched power.
