So, I am attempting to remove the S10's Side Stand Nut and bolt in order to clean and lube it. But cannot for the life of me remove or even loosen it. I tried with an impact driver and wrench.

Is there some trick to this? Is it a reverse thread? I assume the previous owner or the dealer, tightened this. Thanks in advance.

Did you remove the nut on the inboard side?
Or, is the nut spinning or stuck on the bolt?
I would cut the nut off with a Dremel tool if you can’t spin it off the bolt and replace both.
Actually, leave them intact and spray some chain lube or oil in the area of the bolt…..it will work just fine.

I looked in my service manual at the torque settings, and it indicates that the sidestand bracket bolt is torqued to 46 ft/lbs plus it has loctite on it. I'm not sure if this is the same bolt you're trying to loosen (I can't find an actually disassembly procedure for the sidestand in the manual). If it's like my old V-Strom, the sidestand bolt was assembled with red loctite, which normally needs some heat applied before disassembly. You could try some heat in there, if you can do it safely.

I could not remove the nut on the inboard side either. I tried with a spanner while holding the front with a socket.

Rob,

I tried that too. Maybe my little Harbor Freight Cordless impact driver lacks the power to turn it? Or maybe as RC said, that it has Red Loctite applied.

Maybe I should forget loosening it and just spray some chain lube on the bolt, but I doubt it will penetrate.

Put everything on hold for the moment and order a new bolt and bushing.

Since I added this tool to my Arsenal no more stuck anything. No more rounding either. Best thing since sliced bread. Never not been able to get something off with this thing.
