Stolen License Plate

I went out for a quick ride last week and when I got back I went to put the tarp on the bike and noticed that my license plate was stolen. I know I should have noticed it before I left but I didn't go to the back of it when I was getting ready. The bike is behind a locked gate. I had a brake light bolted under the plate and they broke those mounts after undoing the top bolts.

I don't know if they took it because it was personalized or because they didn't want to be traceable when up to no good. It could also be someone fed up with the reduced hours and services at the MTO. It's a pain trying to get anything done with Covid! The lady at the license office said it's the second stolen plate she'd done this week.

I hate thieves!! What a pain trying fab up some new mounts with just stuff laying around the house because you can't go buy anything!

Rant over.

You sure it didnt fall off?

That is such a strange thing to steal.

I guess maybe they could slap it on another bike and hit the nj turnpike...that could run you $100 easy.

I think it's going up on someone's wall as a trophy. But, in case it does end up being used by someone else, report it stolen; asap.

That really burns me up. On a good note you still have an awesome bike and in a great area for riding!

I use a rivet in the place of one of the nut and bolt holding the plate on .

Did they take the brake light too? No reason to steal a personalized plate except for wall hanging. Someone wanting to be anonymous wouldn't want an easy to remember personalized plate. But the plate might have been taken just because it was attached to the brake light and they wanted that.

Around here it is the inner city types who steal plates to put on their stolen bikes.
#BikeLife started here in Baltimore with the 12 O'clock Boys and is now all over the place.

I'm sure it didn't fall off. The way it was bolted on in all 4 corners and the wire from the light holding it all on.

I did report it stolen as soon as I noticed it in case it was used on toll roads or used in a criminal act. Being a personalized plate it doesn't get replaced for six months. The gave me a loaner till the new one comes.

The plate wasn't expired. It was old photo that showed the brake light best.

I lucked out with timing on getting the plate replaced. I had to call to make an appointment and I got one that had just been cancelled. So no riding missed!!

I like the idea of riveting the plate on but then I wonder if they would just break those mounts to take it and make it hard for me to fix. I think it would just keep the honest people from taking it. Thieves will take by any means available.

The brake light was still there hanging by the wire. It was just the plate they were after.

I hope they don't come back to take my replacement!!

Yeah when they wanted my top case they ripped off the entire factory mount, bracket and all.

If you make it hard to take they will just damage your bike to get it.

Strange. Thieves usually go for the low hanging fruit. Seems more like your plate was targeted for the personalized nature of it. Going over a locked gate seems like they wouldn't notice it just passing by, but wanted that plate in particular. Too easy to grab plates off bikes on the street or not behind a locked gate. Sucks no matter what. Glad you got a replacement/loaner and can still ride.
