Sticky downshifting, smooth upshifting

I've read some threads on checking/greasing the shifter pivot bolt or whatever it's called. I did that. My bike has about 25K on it. 2016 ES. It's hard to imagine I need new clutch plates. If I do, I'll replace them. But is this a common issue with the S10 ES? I'm relatively new to the bike. Thanks in advance.

Did you purchase the bike new? or is it just new to you? Check the shift lever, make sure it’s aligned with the line on the end of shaft. Then use the threaded rod to adjust for your foot. Worth a shot.

Zert?
Is that a southern thing? I have noticed over the years that other people mistakenly spell it like that also.

It is spelled and pronounced "Zerk", as in named after Oscar Zerk, the guy who patented them.

I doubt, but on your "list", double check the internal spring behind the clutch. That would give you positive oneway, and 'dead' feel the other way. #5

Not sure I understand this - "end of the shaft". Can you explain, maybe a pic?

Using Jaxon's picture, I had a very odd thing happen a few years ago to my FJ1200.
It uses a similar Shift-Shaft arrangement.
I had the tiny spring that centers the "Claw" that engages the Shift-Drum come unclipped from the end of the bracket on the Shift-Shaft.
It resulted in exactly the symptoms that you described................It would upshift fine, but would not downshift unless I wiggled the shift lever, or danced on it with my foot. It was a pain in the ass to ride. It happened on my way to work one day.
Had to remove the whole clutch assembly to pull the shaft out to fix it.

If I remember correct, we actually had a member that found out that his spring was broken...not so long ago...
Don't remember if it was #5, or the other.

It may well be the spring on the shift shaft, but that is far from a common fault & will reveal itself with a very floppy feel at the lever.

More likely, to my mind, is some air in the clutch hydraulic line. After a fluid change it may bleed out OK, but it also may spell the start of a problem with the slave cylinder or maybe even the master, which has only a small reservoir. Whilst we all flush/change the brake fluid regularly, the clutch often gets ignored.

I don't think it would work that way. If one side of the #5 spring breaks the other side of the spring doesn't have anything to pull against.

Exactly. That’s what I thought he said his issue was. Maybe I was doing five other things when I read the post. Lol
