Hi, my starter relay has started clicking and then after 1-2 seconds the starter motor works and the bike starts.

Has anyone had this and was buying a new relay solve the problem? also is it better to buy a genuine one at £68 or an ebay one at £25?

I would check for a loose connection to the relay first. It is extremely rare for a motorcycle starter relay to fail. Possible for sure but very rare. And before replacing it make sure you test it. Relays are just a simple continuity test to see if it's good or not.

i even first because of the clicking and not starting thought it was battery, i bought a new yuasa 14s and the bike did the same with new battery, the mechanic that services my bike was in the area so called in and thats when he found out it was the starter realay, the conections were tight and all looked good, but when he pulled the realy off and looked at the crimps and the connections they were grubby to say the least

Once again, a Beemer story. . . . by 60k miles. . . . I was on my third starter. I understand that the starter had to work hard to start the motor (that bike was impossible to push start, even on a hill) but, put a better starter on the bike. :( I am amazed at how many electrical problems the UK weather is responsible for. I'd coat every connection with dielectric grease.

Same here, connections/terminals were great, bike is 3 years old, in a tropical country. But the starter relay failed after 13,000km. Upon "dissecting" the relay, it was found that the electromagnet and its coil remains good, but the main contacts were eroded due to arching.
I ordered a genuine relay from Yamaha dealership.
