I've Heard the engine heat is a killer on the Triumph 900. Other than that. They look tempting.
It really isn't that bad. Hot, yes, on really hot days like any other bike, otherwise not bad at all. Or I have just gotten use to it. No where near the chestnut-a-roasting that my Harley was.

Being a new bike, Triumph really didn't think it out as well as they should have. Although they were working within the confines of the lower, forward engine placement, necessitating the split radiator.

Hmmmm....how come no one makes mention of the Honda Africa Twin?
I'm on my second Africa Twin now....a DCT 2020 model. So far just over 1,700 km or 1,000 miles....lovin it.
If I want to ride and clutch, I'll take my Thumper (DR650) for a burn...another great bike!!

I tried a Triumph Explorer a few years ago when I owned a Kawasaki Versys 1000 and it was just massive and heavy in comparison. It went well enough, it handled well enough but it just wasn’t what I would like to ride on a daily basis, the hour and a half test ride was quite enough thank you.
Not sure why you're telling me that you wouldn't buy a Tiger as I never said you should. I was suggesting that the OP might want to consider one in his search for a bike that's lighter than his Trophy and has more legroom. :)

. . . . I bought mine for travelling and touring and for leisure riding and it certainly fits the bill. For me, it makes enough power and is fast enough for my enjoyment. . . .
Yup. Everyday use that I didn't have to worry about being fragile. Most of the roads I use, my kid on the FJR refuse to use; to rough. CW calls her the Tahoe/Landcruiser of the bike world. To me, she's more like the Jeep. 'Cuz, to me she feels smaller, and lighter, like the Wrangler. Still in the SUV category though.

OK, it’s fine that you like Triumphs, well that particular Triumph as I owned a Tiger 1050 and that was quite a nice bike. I was simply relating my albeit brief impressions and point of view with regard to the Explorer.

Yeah, I was looking at the 2021 AT in my hunt but never had a chance to test ride one, seems like a realty nice bike & gets great reviews. I was after less weight so I went with the Triumph 900 RP probably gave up some highway comfort but I'm fine with that. One thing for sure it's always a compromise when your talking big ADV bikes.
