Happy Romney week everyone.

I'm showing 97 people have indicated they are planning to come. That's a pretty impressive number considering how many other events are happening this weekend. On Friday I was contacted by the organizer of a third event I hadn't know about. He told me they were also getting together this weekend. So there are lots of choices this weekend. I'm pleased to know so many are enjoying this event enough to select it when there are other options. Also happy to welcome those new riders who are joining us. Should be another great time of getting to know your fellow Adventure rider from around the US and Canada.

The forecast is certainly not as ideal as we had hoped, but if you are a local, you'll recognize it as our normal daily summertime forecast. Very common to see thunderstorms predicted nearly every day around here. I'd like to see things improve as the week goes on, but weather does what it wants.

A reminder about our sponsor, Romney Cycles. This is their event, they have generously put it on year after year. They do it at no charge to the riders, and hope only that you come, enjoy the experience, and come away with a positive impression of who they are and how they run their dealership. Of course they are a business, and would be very happy if your positive experience also translates into giving them an opportunity to serve your motorcycle needs. They've mentioned to me they are pleased to know there are 4 of us who have also scheduled service during the event (I'm getting a valve check). Bottom line, if you like what they are doing with this event, please don't be shy about telling them you appreciate their efforts. They put a lot into this, it's good for them to hear it's something people feel is worthwhile.

Please also remember this is an opportunity for us to do something good for people who are truly in need of some help. In addition to whatever donation item you may be bringing, we will also be selling raffle tickets for the items to be raffled off Saturday night (I think at 5pm this year). 100% of the raffle proceeds go to The Potomac Center. It is our primary way of raising money for them. Romney Cycles is not going to ask you to spend a nickle, but I will. Please consider helping us raise funds for donation to The Potomac Center. Thank you.

I know a number of you have already hit the road on the way to Romney, and all of us will be doing it at some point this week. Please ride safe and enjoy the ride as you kickoff your 2018 riding season.

I'm leaving this afternoon for a few days of riding little bikes before heading off to Romney on Thursday. I do not know what my internet situation will be so this might be my last opportunity to send a note before we all start arriving. I will have internet again by Thursday afternoon.

Have a great ride everyone. Looking forward to catching up.

I'll just add one item to what Dirt_Dad wrote, in that I got to ride a bit the night before last. We have a lot of potential stream crossings, and this includes for those of you coming or leaving via the new Mid Atlantic Back Discovery Adventure Route. I went by two of ours to find that the water was both high and moving with force. With the rain this week, the crossings are only going to become more treacherous. There's nothing that says you HAVE to go through a stream crossing and ALL of them have an alternate way around.

I’ll try again as I’m leaving tomorrow morning for the North end of the MABDR if anyone else is interested.

Did you see that Big Bob?

Wreckerchecker, the same fella handing out the pass, suddenly turned sadist with YOU as the bait.

I still want pics, nonetheless.

I'm in the middle of living out of my dads driveway in my camper while we wait for the kids to finish out their last weeks of school. Just put my house on the market yesterday in MD. I was going to ride out Friday morning around 695 and out 70 West but it's calling for heavy rain and thunderstorms. I also seem to have packed my tent and sent it to FL already as I was just inspecting my camping gear and it was missing.... :-[

I may throw the bike in the truck again this year and just sleep in the backseat at Romney, as much as I hate to do it. But that would also give me the opportunity to bring the KTM too. Hmmm.

I fully support your winging it.

So much less can go wrong with plans when you just don't really have any. :)

We understand about the weather forecast. Been following it very closely and it has been going both up and down by the hour. Looking closer at the numbers suggests:

1. Thursday is rain and lots of it. (Over 2")

2. But once we get to 8am Friday, the hourly is showing 50-60% chance of only mist (0.01"/hour) to light drizzle. As the saying goes "Them ain't bad odds." Plus, those who know the area know that weather on the ridge tops usually gets it while we are fine lower. Friday beer and fire time should be much better than Thursday.

3. Saturday morning is forecast 50% chance of mist to drizzle, again at 0.01". Again, this isn't a Harley chrome event and that's not bad. Once we get to 11am, we are currently looking at 20-40% chance of a passing thunderstorm for the rest of the day. Typical WV spring that offers blue sky with thunderstorms you can generally see at a distance, ride through, or around.

4. Saturday evening into Sunday are looking good for the fires and beer.

Fwiw, a few of us are riding little bikes in West Virginia now, so not getting internet regularly. Dirt Dad and I plan to be in Romney setting up Thursday afternoon.

The kids are scheduled to visit Saturday at 6pm, maybe slightly after. We thought that would give our folks a good day of riding, and the kids will have just had dinner. The number will be about like last year, largely because the center just doesn't have the ratio of staff to escort more.

We will be looking for a few volunteers who would let the kids sit on their bikes on center stands. It was an absolute hit last year. For this year we had a thought to photo the kids, print and frame the photos (4×6-ish), and give those to the kids when we give them the donation check on a couple of weeks.

I'm a glass half full kinda guy with lots of goretex gear. I'll take those odds and ride out Friday AM. Thanks for the head up! At least it's not going to snow this year! There were flurries at the sheetz saturday morning when we went riding last year. I'll make my bike available for the kids on Saturday.

The kids can sit on mine. I would even let Limey or Patrick sit on it.

Sprinkled here today even when I was scuffing the new Mitas.

Cooler is ready for beer. I may go get a couple bags of ice tomorrow.
