What day? I'd go out of my way to get to the start point and ride down, it's a bucket lister for me.

I was thinking of leaving Toronto on the 15th-16th of May to start at Lawrenceville PA. I’m a bit nervous doing it by myself after getting trapped under the bike and braking my foot 2 years ago.
Wow might need more time it’s about 600 miles from Lawrenceville to Romney via the MABDR.

Limey I'm thinking of riding it south to north after Romney if that could fit your plans.

Limey - there is usually a group of Strom riders that come down from Ontario. I can expand your question over there if you like.

Sounds good will switch this to PM/email now for details. FMrider is interested to join also. I rode with him in CO, easy to get along with and a capable rider.

Update on the Potomac Center charity side of things:

I just spoke to the Center Director, Rick Harshberger, and he said that they currently are taking care of over 100 kids and young adults in the buildings across the grass, in their group home, and foster homes. The kids had a great time visiting us last year, some still wear their shirts that we donated, and they still talk about visiting us. The kids definitely will be coming to visit us again this year.

Donations - We've raised a bunch of money over the last 6 years for the Potomac Center and before that for the School for the Deaf and Blind. Just from the shirt sales, we've already raised $450 for this year. You guys ROCK! While money contributions are what we've historically provided, not everybody is able to kick in or wants to and we're good with that too. As everybody knows, the weekend is sponsored by Romney Cycle Center and free for anybody to attend, unlike many/most of the other events in the area. Come, hang out, and have a good time regardless of the charity. Dirt_Dad and I every year talk about how many of you we've gotten to be friends with and really only get to see this once a year.

Another way to help is that the Center can take nearly anything we want to bring. Last year, we gave a pickup truck full of mostly used clothes, plus some bookcases and other stuff. A few non-cash things that Rick mentioned today that are always needed include:

Anything for hygiene for over 100 people, such as
shampoo
toothpaste
toothbrushes
deodorant
female items
hair brushes
etc

Sunscreen

Clothing
They have scrawny kids to 6'6" mooses and can use almost anything. Rick just asked to avoid any sexual or offensive graphics.
Even if they can't use clothes themselves, they sell the cloth by the pound.
Socks - Preferably new. He said that they go through socks like crazy. All sizes.
Underwear - Same as the socks.

Balls, toys, and other "kid stuff." I'll just add that some of their big kids are REALLY strong so durability is pretty important.

Feel free to improvise beyond what's listed here and they can always use Walmart gift cards for everything else they continually need to buy.

Thank you!

Next Tuesday (May 8) will be last call for Camp-N-Ride shirt pre-orders. We'll probably have a few extras made, but there won't be many, they usually go fast, and no guarantee they will be in your size. (shirts are a Navy blue which is a lot darker than shown below)

I was also asked about donating food and the answer is ABSOLUTELY. I'm sure most everybody here knows how teenagers can eat.

Bob,

Regarding donations for the kids at the Potomac Center, do you have an address we can ship donations to?

For the first time since 2011, I am home on the first weekend of May. I'm normally at the Romney Camp N Ride having a great time with close friends, many of whom I only see once a year.

Of everyone involved in setting the 2018 date, I was the least enthusiastic about moving from our first weekend in May date.
Confession: I was wrong...way wrong. It is currently 59 degrees, has been raining most of the afternoon out at Romney, and many more hours of rain to go. If we had done it this weekend it would have been our 3rd event in a row with too much rain. Thank you Larry (Romney GM) for not buying off on my idea to keep it this weekend. Great call.

It's been a very cold and unpleasant spring season up until last week. I'm glad we moved the date this year and looking forward to a perfect weather weekend two weeks from now.

With 2 weeks to go our rough headcount is over 90. That's pretty good considering we know there are other events happening that same weekend. I'm really pleased to know so many of you feel this event is worth your time. Thank you for joining us again. For me I'm so grateful to have an opportunity to spend time with the fantastic people I get to see every year, and I'm extremely pleased to know we get to help people that can really use the help.

As ChecksWrecks already mentioned, The Potomac Center is really a special place. They have a mission to provide residential assistance and support to both children and adults with intellectual / developmental disabilities as they learn the skills needed to live successful lives.

Many saw a number of the kids from the Potomac Center that joined us last year in the parking lot. What you didn't see were all the kids who were looking out the window who were not allowed to join us. Not because they had done anything wrong, but because they did not have a Photo Release, and could not risk appearing in our photos which go across the internet. The Potomac Center cares for children who come from some very difficult backgrounds. Some are there for their own protection, and keeping their location confidential is an important part of that effort. The Potomac Center truly has an extraordinary mission.

This is normally the point where I encourage all of you very generous people to consider making a donation when you are at the Camp N Ride. I'm certainly going to do that again this year, but I also want to ask you to consider if there are items you could donate in addition to money. Please refer back to the information ChecksWrecks provided a few posts back on what they can use. The need for even routine items is endless. If you have room to pack an extra duffel bag with anything you would like to donate we will make sure it gets to the right place.

Thank you for proving year after year you are a wonderfully generous, thoughtful, respectful, and respectable group of people. It is always such a honor to be associated with the people who show up at the Romney Cycles Camp N Ride.

Once again Kawasaki will be sponsoring the grand prize in the raffle. I'm told this year they will be giving away two jackets. I don't have any more details at the moment. Yamaha will also be providing raffle prizes.

We're almost there. Looking forward to seeing all of you in less than 2 weeks.

Bump! In plus one, both tent camping and rolling in Thursday morning. We'll be into Day 4-5 of a BRP/BDR ride by then. Worn but not wore out, ready for more. Looking forward to riding with you folks and supporting a good cause.

Missed your post till now. If you don't need a receipt, on the package you can just put something like "Donation from one of the Camp-N-Ride participants."

From their web-site:

The Potomac Center is West Virginia's only intensive training and educational facility for children with intellctual/developmenta disabilities and accompanying behavioral problems. The Center offers a unique, desperatley needed array of residential services in a family-oriented atmosphere for a deserving population of West Virginians.
We are a registered 501C(3) private, not-for-profit agency that is always in need of funding to buy the essentials the children need such as clothing, educatinal supplies, and also to ensure active participation in community outings and recreational activities.
Your donation is greatly needed and will be much appreciated as we use it to support this wonderful group of "special" children.
You may mail your tax deductible donation to:

Potomac Center, Inc.
Attn. James Harshbarger, C.E.O.
One Blue Street
Romney, WV 26757
Thank You

For the tent campers I am bringing what we call the Big Ass Cooler. Big enough for two people to sit on. Will be outside my toy hauler and available to all.
