Feel free to complain to the US politicians and Federal Dept of Transportation. We do. No success so far.

I'll never understand why Yamaha and other companies don't just make "World" products. You would think that the savings from having only one version would offset the minor issues with having immobilizers on US bikes, charcoal canisters on all bikes and the miles/kms switch over on all bikes.
Agree, Yammer Hammer could build one version of the bike and as long as it complies with the countries they sell them to, one would think it would be more economical.
As far as the U.S. converting to the metric system, I'm not holding my breath. Those in charge, read older people are generally the decision makers and very set in their ways. I'm older (69) so I'm not having a dig at the older generation.

Please keep me up to date on what happens with this.
Received an answer from Customer Support:

Hello V...,

Thank you for writing. The Super Ténéré is built to Canadian specifications and doesn’t offer the option of changing the speedometer to miles.
We advised factory about this desired option for future units, but the option is not available now, unfortunately.

Regards,

Diane
Replied that the issue is known and Yamaha did nothing so I expect them to address the safety issue seriously and I would like to have an ETA on resolution. Waiting for next reply. If its negative will fill a complaint with TC.

Same here. Toggle KPH to MPH is a simple software feature, it costs nothing to introduce.

Second reply is hopeless. Yamaha will not fix it. Here's the reply:

Hello V...,

I have contacted one of our Product specialist here.

This model cannot be switched between MPH and km/h.

The motorcycle is safe. It is constructed to Canadian standards.

There is no plan to change the software specification of the dash.

Regards,

Diane
So, I'm going to next step - a complaint to TC.
