Hey everybody, I'm trying to get a feel for how performance of the site is holding up, as well as to validate my current hosting provider.

Since we are really spread out around the world, I'd like to get a sense of how the load times of the site are for everybody. Please take a quick moment and cast your vote.

If anybody has comments please feel free to share them here.

Thanks,
Venture

Venture, I would say it is about the same as others I post on. I have not noticed it being overly slow, but we could all wish for more if given the opportunity. I have no complaints though as it has never been a problem for me.

In addition to here, I spend most of my time on a couple STOC forums and ADVrider. To me, this site is the fastest - but then maybe it's just that I enjoy it more than the others..... 8)

I don't care for this particular forum software (which has a really nasty bug in the text editor BTW), but the speed and responsiveness of this site is excellent. Of course, I suspect the traffic loads are still pretty low so thing could change - my bet is that you'll see a 10x increase in traffic in the next six months as the bike ships in the US and people start hitting images and video harder.

Mark, what is the bug you're seeing? Can you explain how to reproduce it? Also, what browser do you use?

In IE8, if you're typing near the bottom of the main text-editing box, the system has a scrolling problem where it scrolls the character you just typed off-screen immediately after you type it. So you're typing in the blind. The workaround is to add buffer text at the bottom of the post, so you can then use the scroll bar to keep the area you're typing in from being at the bottom of the edit box.

The problem happens sporadically in Firefox too, but you can typically nudge the edit box to be a pixel or two different that will solve it. Haven't tried Safari or Chrome. Using Firefox is the obvious workaround, but I like to stay in IE to use a variety of plug-ins that I depend on. And going against CW, I find IE a lot more stable than Firefox.

I am a Firefox user, but I just fired up IE8 and am trying to duplicate what you're seeing. No luck so far, but I'll keep trying. I'll also check the support site and see if anybody has the same problem.

One thing you may not know, at the bottom of the main text box is a thick gray gar with a "handle" on it. Click and drag that down to make more typing room if you need it.

Please keep the bug reports coming, I can only fix things if I know about them.

I will second colorider's comments oboth the other sites he mentioned. Even on non-computer devices it seems fast to me.

No problems from my perspective, but I agree that popularity will grow and it'll be a better test. Try again in 6 months Venture. Good job being pro-active though.

I was actually looking at this survey more as a validation of my current hosting provider, whom I'm pretty happy with. They offer the "next step" hosting options as well, so I think I'm going to stick with them and just upgrade vs. a new hosting provider.

Its quite fast to load, but for me is just the same as any other website... when i'm @home.

I'd like to notice that the simplicity of design helps. There's not much to load or even pages overloaded with links to pictures hosted on slower websites which helps alot.

I can get this over the mil net .... it's as fast from Afghanistan as it is from the UK. I do suspect that it will bog down as the patronage picks up.

The site seems very responsive, though when I click on a photo that someone has uploaded I don't get any confirmation (status bar or something) letting me know I don't need to keep clicking on the image. It's really only a minor thing, as I've very much enjoyed this forum.

I don't use forums much and have never "blogged," so I don't have much to compare it to, but it has worked great for me. I am very grateful for this forum, because I have learned so much more about this bike in advance than I could have dreamed. I have also learned quite a bit about things like helmets and gadgets, and I have learned of ways to find great places to ride to and through. Also discovered the link to the Wasp development thread over at ADVrider and, as a result, I will not be as reluctant to make more mods and adjustments to this bike than any of my prior bikes. Many thanks to you guys for creating and continuing to develop this.

Runs about the same as ADVrider. Sometimes pics and videos are a little slow.
