This is what mine looks like after 17000 km (10600 M).
Does not look like there have been water on mine (maybe a little on the right one), and for sure there is no rust.
I do have a fender extender on front wheel.

Those plugs look perfect. I've been changing mine at 26,000 mile (~42,000Km) intervals when I'm in there doing the valve clearance inspection, and at that mileage my plugs look the same as yours, even the gap is still within specification. Not sure why Yamaha recommends such a short change interval.

You are correct, they are in well inside spec.
And I also think the Yamaha change interval could be longer.

I changed the copper core plugs on my '12 every 16k. Cost was reasonable. On the FJR I changed the plugs to Iridium at 52k and every 50k miles after that. I changed the '15 S10 plugs at 16k to Iridiums and will change them again at 50k, just as an even number and to see if there is any change. I did see noticeable improvement in starting quickness when I installed the iridium plugs. (which frankly surprised me.)
