$2500 or trade for something I can sell

Short Version: 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere with 80k miles that drives and runs, was my daily driver until Aug 2022 but mechanic said performed poorly on engine leak down test and had tight exhaust valves. It starts right up and runs good but at 80mph had a weird lack of power and thats why I took it in.

Stuff:
- title is clean in my name from Georgia no liens
- trex skid plate (need to tighten bolts)
- happy trails crash bars not mounted
- denali horn
- helibars thing puts bars closer and higher and extends brake line
- happy trails rack and panniers
- ernie something flatved 5.25gal aux fuel tank plumbed to main tank with on off valve
- gel heated seat custom made by (??? Need to look it up)
- aux lights
- eastern beaver fuse block
- tool box by pannier
- maybe more if i find box of parts but its midnight and I am tired so this could be it or i coukd find box with rear seat, windshield and stuff.

Issues:
- one leaky fork seal
- low engine compression (40 on one cyl, 28 on other)
- tight exhaust valves
- mechanic left it in pieces, i paid and picked it up and hastily put it back together. What I am saying is you should tighten bolts and such. I couldnt get skidplate to line up and said the heck with it.
- recent clutch

Long Version: i bought it used with 32k miles and no history about 4 years ago. Used daily and for long work trips. I did usual (to me) maintenance but no valve checks. That probably was the problem. Mechanic said it could by a grand more or $3k more and would know until he spent the first grand adjusting tight exhaust valves to see if that was the extent of the issue or not. My wife said I should get a new bike rather than putting $ into this and I am not going to argue with a women authorizing a new bike purchase.

I am in Monroe, GA 30655 which is a suburb of Atlanta. I am doing a trip to Arkansas leaving 7Oct and can trailer it to you for $ if on the way.

Here's the proof for the people who say "Just run the bike, if it's not making any noises it's probably ok not to worry about that expensive valve clearance check."
I find it hard to believe that it starts/runs with 40 psi in one cylinder and 28 in the other.

I'm betting that's not "PSI" readings, it's cylinder leakdown percent readings.
5-10% is "normal"
28-40% is no good!

I'm guessing it has burnt exhaust valves causing the low compression, high cylinder-leakdown, and lack of power.
This wouldn't be terribly expensive for parts to fix this engine (if that is in fact what is wrong with it) but the labor involved would be tremendous if you are paying a shop to do it.

I would definitely rebuild this engine myself if it was mine, or source a good engine from a crashed/totalled bike.

Will be a great project-bike for someone. Hope someone on here buys it.

I would also say: "Have your valve-clearances checked at the recommended intervals!"
You are just rolling-the-dice if you don't

Having not heard from the seller has given me time to come to my senses and realize I just don't have the time right now for another project. I'm officially bowing out of this endeavor.
However, if the new owner decides to do some parting out I'd love to have first right of refusal on the aux tank and luggage..................
Good luck Lads!!!!

I'm new to forum, just picked this bike up. Will be starting on it this weekend. I have no use for the auxiliary tank if anybody is interested make offers.
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase. I hope you post your restoration progress on here so we can see what you find and how you repair it.
Keep in mind there are guidelines regarding selling parts on this forum, you need to post a price, ‘make offers’ is not acceptable.
You have an interesting project, and lots of help available here.

Welcome to the group. You scored on that deal. If it were mine, I would try to shim the valves properly and then do a leak down test. You may get lucky!
