Hi
When I shift into 4th gear and give throttle, it will jump out of gear and the again in.
Is this the obvious gear that is worn, or is it perhaps something smaller that can be easily fixed.

I had a ragged out yamaha dirt bike do that. It started jumping out of gear and I kept hammering on it. It finally broke some major internal parts. I didn't look to see what was tore up. Got junked.

Initially I thought clutch slip too, but you are adamant that it is gearbox.

Sounds like lash or end float in the gear clusters, dogs, or a worn/bent selector fork. Unusual for an S10, they take some pretty hard punishment.

Before you start ripping it down though, do check the gear lever pivot & the connecting rod/joints aren't seizing up.

That was the 1st things I checked. Cleaned and greased.

What year Tenere are you talking about ?
How many miles on it ?
what kind of oil have you been using ?
Sure sounds like a very serious issue that will most likely keep getting worse.
I’m no mechanic !

Sounds like worn dogs which leads to worn shift fork(s) and the symptoms described. Unfortunately no way to repair other than split the cases and replace worn / damaged parts. The parts themselves are not that expensive. OTOH, paying shop labor rates inflates the cost quickly. If the OP or a buddy have the skills to perform the work the repair is not that difficult.
