Should I switch to Progressive insurance?

I have insured my bikes with GEICO for the last 33 years with no claims, but a recent premium situation has caused me to look elsewhere for insurance. A company that I am considering is Progressive. For the same coverage and some additional services that GEICO doesn't provide, Progressive undercuts GEICO by at least $300.00 per year on several bikes that I have.

If any of you can give me some feedback on Progressive Insurance, I would appreciate it.

I have had progressive for years. Only one claim from hitting a deer. Totaled the bike and bought it back from them and fixed it. I didnt have any issues with them on value of the bike or accessories. Also my premium didnt increase after the event. Im pleased with them

I just totaled a car and when shopping new ones the dealer said that they keep seeing GEICO with the worst rates and rules, Allstate which I have in the middle as far as premiums unless they bundle the house & all, and are finding that Erie currently is the least expensive. The local Tesla showroom said the same.

I think it's best to do some shopping around. What you pay for your insurance from various companies can depend a lot on where you live; Progressive may be a good deal for someone in Pennsylvania, but another company may offer better rates in North Carolina. I had bounced back and forth between Erie Insurance and AllState when I lived in PA, but when I moved south, they became more expensive and State Farm became a better deal. Over the years here I've used State Farm, GEICO, and for the last few years, Progressive. So far it's been a good experience, but without having had to make any claims, it's tough to tell how responsive a company is. Every few years I check the rates and offered coverage of the major insurers to see if it's worth changing. So far Progressive has stayed the best deal for me; other companies might be a little cheaper, but not enough to make it worthwhile to change.

I had Progressive for year; cheapest by far. There was a several year gap where I didn't ride my bike, so she was garaged, and insurance cancelled. When I again started riding my bike, I naturally called Progressive. No longer the cheapest. During those years, everything had changed. State Farm, which had been stupid expensive, was now the cheapest. And, Progressive had became one of the highest. RC is right about shopping around, and your location has A LOT to do with your rates.

I currently have my Motorcycles, Camper, Autos, and Home insured with Progressive.
My wife and I shopped around quite a bit, and by bundling all our stuff under Progressive we are saving quite a bit of money here in Colorado.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't shop carriers every couple of years, as Sierra pointed out....things change.

I currently have Dairyland ins on my bike, found it to be the cheapest for my area. My truck, trailer, and house is with State Farm as it is all bundled together and the price is about in line with everyone else. State Farm sucks for motorcycle insurance.

I had Progressive for years with no issue and good rates. No problems with the claims process and they gave me a better prices when my ST1300 was totaled than the other (at fault) drivers insurance company (AAA). I then bought the bike back, repaired it and re-registered it under a salvage title. My premium nearly doubled at that point. I dumped Progressive and went with the lizard guy. Good premiums but no claims experience so far. I was happy with Progressive but they apparently don't like to insure salvage title vehicles.

Guys, I really appreciate the comments so far. Thanks!

The issue that cropped up with GEICO is that, last April or so they send out a letter or email (I can't remember) indicating that they would issue a discount due to the virus. This discount was to be applied whenever the policy was renewed, which in my case was this past January. So, GEICO decided to raise my rates $270.00 then "graciously" gave me a $300.00 discount. I am still amazed that they pulled that tactic. I called to find out why this happened and the customer service rep just said that the rates had gone up in New Mexico. I call BS on that one.

I have my car, truck, and house insured with State Farm but for some reason they are even more expensive than what I am paying now for GEICO. I have tried for many years to use State Farm but they just couldn't come close.

In the mean time I'll just keep shopping around.

I have been with Progressive for quite a few years now. The rates seem to be reasonable. My 2013 S10 costs $220 a year to insure. I get a discount for multiple bikes, not sure how much though. The coverage limits are bodily injury $250,000, liability $500,000 and property damage $100,000. This policy includes $3000 coverage for accessories and $500 for safety gear. It is also $0 deductible. They just ask you to have some good pictures of the bikes for accessory coverage. I cannot attest to their claim handling because I have never had to make one.

Insurance varies greatly from state to state. The coverage for accessories and gear are included in their rates. The same policy for my 2017 DR650 costs $135. Then there is another discount for paying it all at once.

I’ve had motorcycles on Geico for quite a few years, last year I got the letter about discount because of COVID-19 but when it was time to renew no discount and the rate actually went up, I plan to shop around this year. It’s been 6-7 years since I totaled out a Goldwing hitting a deer.

That's how it was for me, and I almost didn't check because they had been the highest for years. But, when I was shopping for the '14 FJR (in '14/'15) they turned out to be the cheapest. So, depending on when you last checked, you might want to check again.

I read years ago that Wisconsin had the "safest" drivers. Least amount of crashes per capita. The could explain that coverage, for that premium, with that deductible. The county I live in has consistently been in the top five worst for decades.

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
Progressive user here. I'm happy with their coverage on motorcycles. I like that it is easy to change coverages if you want to add lower increase whatever its 2 or 3 clicks.
The most beneficial thing $12 a YEAR for towing coverage better than what AAA offers. I've had to use it 3 times on various bikes now. One bill alone would have been $500, my cost $0

I'm with AAA insurance. They make it simple for me. My insurance for vehicles is based on miles driven. When I was driving over 30,000 miles per year it was pricey. Now just around town it's very reasonable. Both my bikes have not been ridden for a while and I got a small refund from them.

FWIW even when not riding I keep current registration and insurance on both my bikes. This way I have no issues if I decide to throw caution to the wind and ride anyway.

You lucky dog!! No uninsured motorist!! It's not required here in California but I would not operate a motor vehicle without it.
One thing to be aware of is that uninsured motorist only covers bodily injury, not property damage. So if you are involved in a hit and run you will still be responsible for fixing your vehicle yourself. Unless you have collision insurance. I found this out the hard way when a Dollar General semi drove over my daughter's car. We were stuck with a $7,000 repair bill when Dollar General flipped us the bird and told us to prove it was their truck and to tell them who the driver was in the hit and run.

Depends on insurance. My AAA policy covers comprehension, injury, property, and collision. The reality of getting uninsured added is because in the state of California there is no big penalty for not having insurance. It is only a 100.00 fine. So a lot of drivers are uninsured.
