Getting light refraction riding at night with my helmet and not sure if I got a bum out of spec shield or what.

At night I am seeing multiple lights from a single source. For a car, I am seeing 3 sets of lights for 6 total. One extra light on each side of the actual light source.

This is with out the pinlock, with or with out glasses. I open the visor and it goes away, so don't think I got oldman eyes yet.

I had been using plexus and assumed maybe leaving a film, hit up the visor real good with denatured alchahol and gleaned with glass cleaner but still doing it.

Never noticed this with other helmets and really wondering if I got a bum shield and should just buy a replacement.

That's bizarre. I have the same helmet and haven't noticed anything like that, but I rarely ride past sunset. At first I thought it might be the pin lock but you said you don't have one installed. I do on mine and still no issue.

Could be a bad visor. Did you buy it from Cycle Gear or Revzilla by chance? They are the same company and have a great return policy. You might even order the new visor through them and if it doesn't help, return it.

All Shoei helmets are fitted with visors that meet various international standards for scratch and abrasion resistance, refraction, light transmission, opening angle, defects and field of vision. However there are various different tints, colours & styles that are available, often for a specifically defined purpose.

If you check your visor, there will be some important data near the pivot point at your right side temple. It's difficult to read, but I suspect you will find your visor says something like 'for daytime use only' or words to that effect. For night use a clear visor is recommended.

I did buy from revzilla last fall, haven't done a lot of night riding through the winter without the pinlock, so it's popping up now. I'll order a replacement and see what happens. Wife has the same helmet and says she doesn't notice anything also.

Faceshield is the standard stock clear one that comes with the helmet new.

Whilst I can't speak for the US, the visor fitted as standard to their UK helmets has a light smoke - as I said, check the wording on yours before you flash the plastic.

I'm not the village idiot, nor did I stay at the motel 6 last night but, I did test the alchohol on the edge of the screen near the locks to see if it had a noticable effect on it, which it did not. If there was a film left behind by plexus I wanted to do what I could to remove it and that is probly the least harsh thing I could think of. The glass cleaner is the eagle one 20/20 cleaner which is safe for all tinted windows and gauge clusters so also assumed would be safe for my faceshield.

Occasionally I get what you're describing at night. Not all the time, nor with all lights; seems like different types of light reflect/refract differently. But I have an Arai, and a blue iridium visor. I only use Dawn for cleaning without any other coatings on the visor.
