I'm now totally unemployed (coronavirus)....and Im doing the jobs on the bike that I should have done years ago. When Im at work though I use the bike dvery single day so it's hard to find the time to fix it. Now I have the time but no money. Luckily I ordered bearings before my income suddenly stopped

I feel for you man. Wish you the best getting the bearings serviced. Maybe make a list of all your chassis seals and bearings and see what the cost is to replace.

Thanks Chris. Just finished for the day. Tidied up (I hate a messy workplace)...now making a list of what I need to replace. Some things will have to wait until Im working again but already got the bearings. Need a new spacer for the lower bit of the triple mount thing...but might have to make do with the old one for a bit.
Attached piccy to show the bits ready for re-install.
After 130,000 miles those bearings took some shifting!! Spent virtually the whole day. My Dremel took a beating. Drdmel is made in USA so thanks guys...good bit of kit!!
Greetings from over the pond and may you all stay healthy20200324_151344.jpg

Your thread really brings the reality of why to buy a reliable bike that can be beat to crap and still perform its duties. I can just wheel mine in the garage and forget about it. Yours is used for transportation and work. Not to mention in your country vehicles live a rough life. This is a true testament of the durability of these Super Tenere's.

I never thought of a Dremel tool. Brilliant idea!! Could you imagine using a file!! LOL:eek:

You're absolutely right Chris. I love bikes but this Tenere has been treated like a work horse, day in, day out and in all weathers. Hopefully it will keep going strong for a while yet.

How did you get the bolts out without removing the exhaust? I'm currently trying to remove my rear shock and am finding it necessary to remove the linkage but Yamaha decided to put the bolts in from the left and then to mount the exhaust pipe in the way. 2016 ES

You slide out the bushing, then the bolt comes right out:

Hi Bokerfork. Not wanting to disagree with Chris but I couldn't manage it his way, so I did loosen the headerpipes. I didn't remove them completely just loosened everything and it gave me enough space to get the bolt out.
NB..because I do lots of miles in all weathers I spray my header pipe bolts with WD40 as often as possible.
I have learned on previous bikes that when those bolts get really rusty they are likely to snap when removing header pipes.
The other thing I do (daily in winter) is always wipe my fork stancions clean of dirt with a baby wet wipe. It takes seconds and it means I can do 70,000 miles plus on one set of fork seals.

Hi folks. All done. New bearings all around and a replacement rear shock that I bought off ebay about 4 years ago!
Not a great photo but the more observant among you will notice that I hav20200327_154920.jpge now put the forward most bolt in the other way round so next time I can get that bolt out more easily.
Chores all done so now it's time for job searching. Keep well folks.

great thread, just greased mine today and they looked in great shape for 60.000 miles.
Question is should there be play between dog bones as i can slide them side to side a little maybe 1mm.

Some of the yellow latex is missing from one of my rear linkage bearings. Don’t have tools to remove the bearing (bearing tools or sockets to fit the sizes required to push them out).

Any recommendations on tools? Looks like Motion Pro makes a bearing removal tool kit for $172. I’ll spend the money on it to do the job correctly but want to make sure it will do the work. Reached out to them and it was a very general response.
