Hi guys, I have a 1984 CR500 in France that I want to bring to the USA, it has the wheels removed and is strapped to a pallet. I have contacted a couple of companies in France to get a quote to ship it to the USA, the first quoted $2500 which seems excessive, and none of the other companies have even bothered to reply. Has anyone shipped a bike from Europe to the USA. Any recommendations on a reasonable company? I would like to keep the cost under $1000, I have owned the bike 25 years and it has been in France for 20 of those years, I have a title in my name so it should be simple to ship? Not in any rush to get it here.

cheers Gary

I would love to sell the CR and get a later water cooled CR500 over here, but the bike is in fantastic condition so I would like to keep it if I can.. if shipping proves too expensive I might try and sell it, but doubt I will get much for it in France!!

I've read that many of airlines will ship... A buddy is thinking of bringing back his DR from Columbia this next season. He'll ride in the same plane with it. Seem to recall the price tag to be over a grand though. Don't recall the airline.

I hear good stories of Schumacher ........... https://www.schumachercargo.com/gallery/scl/motorcycle-shipping/Proffesional-motorcycle-loading

Never needed to try them myself. They have a base in Houston TX.

I guess you are attached to the CR, otherwise selling it in France & buying another Stateside may prove a more straightforward option.

I have used Schumacher to ship bikes a number of times between USA and Europe. They are good and do work with you and your specific requirements. Probably as good as you'll get.....

Thanks Chris, will reach out to Motorcycle express.

Update, Gail no longer works there, but they only ship to Canada not the USA, living in Texas means that it's too far and too much hassle to try and get it from Canada to Dallas!! They did recommend another company "James Cargo" so I will reach out to them.
