I've always thought a bike will tell you what oil it likes. Haven't tried a lot of different oils on the Tenere yet.
Yamaha, Rotella and the blue jug similar to Rotella. (possibly Delo)
All seem similar for shifting. My issue is down shifting. Little clunky. Up shifting is great.
And yes I have a grease-zert in the pivot.

Anyone use an oil they feel improved the shifting?

Curious about this myself. I did my first oil change about a week ago. I used the Yamaha dead dinosaur 10W-40 and the bike seems to shift a little more clunky. I’m wondering if by chance the bike came from the dealer with synthetic oil.

Downshifting problems have been traced to deficient lubrication of the shift lever shaft. Try removing it, cleaning and re-lubing that pivot to see if that helps.

Like I said in the OP, have grease zert, been cleaned and re-greased recently, not the issue.

I use Amsoil in everything else I have, mainly because of the extended oil change intervals and that synthetic is just better oil.
Stopped using it in motorcycles cause (just my opinion) the wet clutch just dirties up the oil faster and
changing the oil more often seems to help. Dirty oil just seems to make shifting clunkier.
I haven't found anything so far so eliminate the clunky downshifting yet.

Last month when I did a oil/oil filter change upon a recommendation from a friend I used Motul 7100 4T 10W40 full synth.
The first thing I noticed when I went out for a ride was how much slicker the upshifting and downshifting was.
I know a oil change will always have this immediate effect but it felt so fluid and I can swear the engine ran cooler.
From what I have gathered ester based synths do benefit wet clutch bikes. The Motul is $ but I feel it is worth it and I dig its crimson color.
For the record I bought my ‘13 S10 this past June with 7800 miles on the clock so my scoot has relatively low miles.

Thanks, this is the info I'm looking for, even if it is a more expensive one.....

Yes indeed! Good information. The fresh stuff I put in immediately resulted in less “smooth” feeling shifts compared to whatever was in it
