At present I have a Cardo Q1 which I use to communicate to

1 My Sat Nav (BMW Nav V....I have a GSA 1250 as well as the S10. Might as well use the same nav on both bikes)

2 iPhone 10

I find it easier to access my music and phone through my sat nav

I have the phone and sat nav paired to my Cardo

and

my phone paired to my sat nav as well

Music (from sat nav or phone) and sat nav instructions are loud and clear but telephone calls are very quiet even at low speeds

Is this set up correctly?

My unit is quite old and I'm considering 'upgrading to a Cardo Freecom 1. Do you think this will help with the phone problem?

Many thanks for any help

Mike

The problem may be having the phone paired with both satnav and the headset. I have been led to believe that it's better to just pair the phone only with satnav and then pair satnav with the headset. I don't have any issues with the volume of phone calls this way using a Freecom 1+, iPhone 11 and Garmin 660

I'm with Rob, if I pair my Huawei P30 to my Sena SRL and my Zumo 660 it doesn't work as well as connecting the phone to the 660 and 660 to the headset. This was the same when I used a Cardo G9.

The next issue you'll have is getting things to pair in the order you want them to pair in, if you turn everything on at the same time the phone will go back to pairing to both. I've removed the SRL from my phone list so it can't pair to it any longer. I only add it when I want to do an update etc.

Yep, I removed the phone/headset pairing because of how it defaulted to Phone/headset when everything is turned on

Thanks for your speedy replies

Cheers

Unfortunately Saint rob your idea didn't work

I'm starting to think I have a faulty Q1 unit.

A friend of mine has a spare one I can try but unfortunately I won't see him for a couple of weeks

If it is a faulty unit I'll buy a Cardo Freecom 1 or 1+

Cheers for now

It might be worth seeing if you can update the firmware of your headset as sometimes hardware doesn’t play nicely with Apple products.
I recently changed my car and whilst there was no issue pairing the phone to the car, there was a performance issue which kept interrupting calls and missing speech. It transpired that the car needed a bluetooth firmware update and once done the performance issue went away.

Don’t know if the Q1 works differently to my Packtalk, but I have it paired to the Garmin and to a BT dongle (Sena SM10) so I can hear my RD and XM Radio, which are connected to the SM10 via audio cables. I do not pair my phone with the Packtalk at all. All phone functions work fine though the GPS, with the advantage of being able to see the caller ID. I had issues with the the phone and the GPS both paired to the Cardo. Doing that also takes up both BT slots and leaves my XM and RD out in the cold.

I've got my iPhone connected to my Garmin and the Garmin connected to the Q1. The phone is not paired to the Q1.

Music and sat nav directions are loud and clear, just the phone that's quiet.

I wonder if it's because the phone is Bluetoothed to the sat nav and then Bluetoothed again to the Q1. I want the phone through the sat nav so that I get caller recognition

Iv'e found out today that if I get a call, stop the bike and answer the phone using the phone's speaker everything is loud and clear in my helmet. Can't do that when riding unfortunately because if the phone is set to speaker it will not come through on Bluetooth. It only comes though on Bluetooth if the speaker is switched on during the call

The iPhone works perfectly through my car's Bluetooth system, so I'm starting to suspect the Q1 unit.

As I said above I think my next step is to try my friend's Q1

Many thanks for all you efforts. I really appreciate it

I don’t think you are supposed to BT the phone to both the GPS and the Cardo. Just one or the other. I just BT into the GPS but when connecting the phone does default to a low volume so I have to turn the phone volume up at the start of each ride

I have my packtalk bold paired to my garmin 590lm and the garmin paired to my I phone, everything works great, if I paired my Packtalk to both gps and phone nothing worked correctly. I made sure that I removed the I phone from the packtalk bold so it doesn’t connect to it automatically when turned on. iPhone to gps, gps to packtalk and everything works great, I get phone calls with the info displayed on the gps, music and gps prompts all through the headset.

Strange. Newest firmware loaded?

We use a pair of the packtalk bold JBLs, and I have my headset connected to my (android) phone and Garmin XT and all of it works great -- I get GPS prompts in the headset, and can speed-dial and answer incoming calls on the phone hands-free. No pairing between phone and GPS, because my phone's so outdated that it can't. I control all volume levels on the Cardo alone without issue. Using the Cardo Connect app on the phone, which I like a lot.

I don't listen to music (only the built-in FM radio), but my girlfriend listens to music via her paired phone, and we still talk on intercom. So that all works too. We both love the system.

Only advice I can offer is to try to pair it all different ways and see which works best. And make sure the firmware is up to date as Saint rob noted.

That works because it sounds like you don’t Ali’s have your phone paired with the GPS, only to the Cardo. My trouble happened only when the phone was paired to both the GPS and the Cardo.

Correct, I'm just curious as to *why* it gave you trouble when connecting to both.

I'm not a Bluetooth wizard (never liked using it in the past), but surely there exists limitations to the number of connected devices, throughput. Might be some communications problems with too many devices connected at once, or sending the same type of information at once, overlapping information and causing an error. I'd have to think about it some more...

When receiving a phone call, curious if the GPS passes the phone information along to the Cardo or not. Because if the phone sends it to the Cardo as well... what happens.

i.e., segregating the data might help simplify communications and reduce errors.

I’m no wizard either but with the phone paired to both GPS and Cardo, there seemed to be a fight between using the GPS and the Cardo to manage calls. Also using up both of the useable Bluetooth slots on the Cardo prevented connection to the SM10 dongle that I use to hear XM and my RD.

I’m waiting for a Cardo Packtalk Black to arrive. It will replace one of my SHO1 which died a few months ago. My SHO1s don’t like being paired to GPS and phone at the same time either and Cardo support told me not to do it. The phone should be paired to the GPS and the GPS paired to the Cardo. This is so you can take advantage of the advance traffic and weather warnings that the GPS can give you. ( actually, the ability to ride round crap weather instead of through it is a neat feature) I notice the main intercom connection is via Mesh and not Bluetooth which may change things though.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Cardo Packtalk.

I live close to the importers in Salford and when I emailed them a question I was invited over. They set the whole thing up for me....great service.

Everything works perfectly off the bike and when riding all volumes are good but the voice recognition often fails and I have to repeat myself and over emphasise key words. I think due to my Lancashire accent.

Can also act strangely. I occasionally ask for music and get radio! Twice now I've asked for radio and it's dialed my previous telephone number (iPhone 10).

Still quite pleased with it though

What’s the sound quality like? I’ve just realised my old intercom is 7 years old! I’m hoping things have really moved on since then.
