Anyone have a solution to reduce windnoise on the microphone on the Sena units?

My passsnger and I both have Arai XD4 helmets. The wind noise coming though the microphones when at speed makes conversation not possible.

We had to go to the boom mic and keep it right against our lips.

Reposition the mic. When the SO gets her mic in the wrong position it's horrible, otherwise unless we get into bad winds background noise is very good.

My riding buddy has an xd4 and I get way more wind noise from him than others. I think that helmet must flow a lot of air.

If you have the small stick on wired mike, position it a bit behind the cheek pad, if it is the boom, just move it away from the middle as much as possible. Do you have the Wind-block foamy stuff? Worst case you could wrap it with a bit of fuzzy fleece. I did that for my helmet cam mic and it made a lot of difference.

I am using the boom mike.

I don't have the microphone clip/shield. Pretty sure I did not get it when I bought the units more than a year ago.

Called Sena and they've shipped the clips at no charge.

Will also move the mic away from the front vent to see if that helps.

Thanks for your advice.

We use the Sena 20S, Boom Mic, Both use modular helmets.

With best best windscreen I can find for my 6'3" frame on the 2014 S10 ES we find ...

1. We can use the helmet speakers till about 50 or 60 mph

2. Once we get on the interstate we cannot hear each other very well.

3. If you use ear buds and not the SENA helmet speakers we can hear each other well at 70 to 85 mph

NOTE

Have the mic foam touching the lips
Have the mic opening (arrow pointer towards lips) for best use
Have the best helmet (for lower sound)
Have the best windscreen you can find for your size

I don't know about the Sena, but on my Scala mike I took the wind sock off and put a fabric bandaid around the mike and put the windsock back on. No wind noise.

I think the arrow points away from lips? Check the manual?

The nipple on the boom mike goes to the front of the helmet, and there should be a small piece of plastic card come in the box to shove up the foam cover on that side as well to elliminate wind noise!

You are correct about the mic on the SENA 20S. My error thanks for the correction....

"Please adjust the direction of the microphone so that the fin side
of the microphone is facing outward; away from your lips. You can
easily recognize it by touching the fin with your fingers."

Once on a trip, the foam on Spousal Unit's mic came off and rendered the Senas unusable. We stopped st a rural hardware store and she saw some small, yellow foam paint rollers. I cut the end off of one and put it over the mic. The foam was thicker and denser than the Sena version, and it worked much better too. I rode with the yellow foam in my Schubert C3 for three years.
