All right, so I had pretty much decided to go with a Bill Mayer seat. I was doing some research and came across some info on another fourm. Anyone have any experience with Bill?

Good or bad?

30" in seam and coming off the seat concepts low.

I have a Bill Mayer saddle. I am well pleased with it. I also have the same inseam at 30" as you. I did the ride in since they are located right here in Ventura where I live.IMG_E1112[1].JPGIMG_1111[1].JPG

I have a Corbin, it seemed hard at first. It extends the “numb bum” syndrome much longer than the stock seat. My wife loves the pillion Corbin. It is slick.

Off road and for short rides I prefer the stock seat. It doesn’t feel as intrusive when standing, grips great, and I don’t worry about it getting wet. After about 60 minutes of sitting on it I get “numb bum”.

I adore my corbin for on and off road use. I stand most of the time off road anyway.

I could not stand the grippy seat material that yamaha used for the factory seat.

I bit the bullet and sent my seat to Russell Day Long. No regrets, I can ride all day long with no discomfort. BUT, I do miss the grippy stock Yamaha seat material. After the ECU flash, I need a seatbelt during hard acceleration to stop from sliding to the rear pillion. :p

I have had great results with a Sargent Saddle in the past on an R1200GS. Anybody run Sargents on an S10 and care to comment? I also have a buddy with an ongoing prostate issue and the stock saddle on his Wee-Strom was killing him. He bought a Sargent on my recommendation and it was just as bad for him and his issue. I mentioned to him that I had read great things about Seth Lamm Saddles so he had Seth make him one. He loves it and can ride comfortably about 4 hours with his current issue!

. . . . After about 60 minutes of sitting on it I get “numb bum”.
I thought I was the only one. Main reason I don't go long distances; it would take me forever to get anywhere.

Hey Patrick. . . . Happy Birthday.

I think every butt is different and what people expect and how they ride are different therefore take what I say as just one butt talking. ;) I took my tiger to Bill for a ride in and had them make a few adjustments until I was happy. They’re adjusting of the saddle is rather crude. Where it needed to be soft they just took an ice pick and put about three holes where I felt some pressure. It was effective so I guess that makes it a winner. I have since used that on other seats and it works. The seat was comfortable and the cover was nicely done. So I think you will be happy with them. I have also tried Sargent, Tom Simmons, and Corbin. Out of all the seats I have tried I always end up back at Corbin. It just seems to work out well and is better on all day rides (500-1000miles). Other are more comfortable in the short time but seem to hurt more after a long day stacked behind another long day. All of this said I am on a seat concept seat on the S10. It’s a bit uncomfortable on long days but not enough for me to fork out corbin money on an upgrade.

my biggest concern is/are:

the height, anyone who is 5'11" or greater can do any of them, I am short
getting a $500 seat that I will have the same issues as the $150
woking with a guy who has plenty of "other customers" so why worry about me being unhappy

thx for the B-day wish Sierra1

I saw the seat concept at the end of your post but didn’t know you were doing away with that seat based on inseam challenge. I call my self 5’10” in reality I’m bout 5’9” but that seat concept is a tall seat. Noticeably taller than stock though their website says 1/2” taller. Call up Mayer’s seat and let them know your issues and they will tell you if it will work out for your or not, or at least give you options which may include try and return if it doesn’t work.

Hi guys!
I have read the discussion but I`m very concern to spend $300.00+ usd and find the seat is not confortable for long rides!
As of today in a 2 hrs ride my ass is not good and even if I make a stop for 15min then go back to the bike 30 minutes later I want to make another stop.
How can I make a try o define how will my confortable seat will look like? Again spendign a lot of $ and still having the unconfortable seat is my concern!
Being in Mexico you will imaging how expensive the seat can be! So I need to be carefull.

Regards and thanks in advance for any advice!!
Have a great day!

I currently ride with a Corbin seat, I really disliked how slippery it was at first but seem to have adapted to that part, the next issue is it’s to hard for long days on rough roads but I don’t ride a lot of long days on rough roads. On decent roads it works very well. One thing I have noticed with the Corbin is if I ride a couple hundred miles and start getting a little sore all I have to do is stop for gas and a bite to eat and the Corbin will feel extremely comfortable when I get back on.
The stock seat seems fine for about an hour but after that my back starts to hurt and the longer I ride the worse it gets but I did ride all the way to Alaska and back on the stock seat and it didn’t kill me.
Traded seats with a friend that was using Seat Concepts, at first it felt pretty good but by the time we reached 180 miles I was very anxious to get my Corbin back.
Borrowed another friends Russel Day Long and put 500 miles on it mostly on rough roads and in my opinion that was the best seat I ever used on a Tenere ! Yes the Russel was a little to tall for me but if I ever decide to actually have one built I’m pretty sure they would be willing to build it a little lower for me.
But like many others have said everyone’s butt is different so what works great for one rider might seem totally awful to the next rider.

I am currently using a Sergents seat. I had all the rubber bumpers out of the back of the stock seat so it sat low. My Sergents feels just about as low. The foam in the sergents is much firmer and i can feel small road irregularities i never felt before. Not a bad ride just more feedback as far as im concerned. It is wider and has a small dish to it. I have done 400 and 500 mile days with no issues. But i have done 1000 miles on the stock seat too but i definitely knew it. I may be the only person to want a small reach to things there is the issue for me. The pocket of the seat is too far back for me. Not the fault of the seat manufacurer. It is the ergos of the bike. For my preferences i would like the seat pocket and the footpegs and controls moved forward at least an inch. I do have my bars moved back a bit and narrowed and i do not want them back any further. With all that said the sergents is working for me. It is slick as well. For me it is much better than stock short rides and long. It did take some miles to get used to or break in. Oh i have a 32 inch inseam and im 5 foot 10 inches tall.

I have an Adcox saddle on mine, and at 5´8", I'm no basketball star. It might be a touch taller than stock, but not enough to make a difference. I still run it on the tall setting for the extra legroom. Comfort-wise, I forget that I have it. It's like LD Comfort base layers. the only real negative to my Corbin is it still has a forward slope . had I asked maybe they could have lowered the rear of the seat by a pinch to take out the slope . otherwise happy about the seat . over 6 plus years and holding up well .

I had a Bill Mayer seat on my first ST1100 I only had the rider section customized . Great seat at the time. Sold it and had a Russell seat made. Still have that set on a newer ST1100. Since then I have had Russell seats on KTM 950, Kawasaki Concours 1400 and now on my Tenere. I went with the standard Russell not the low version Russell on the Tenere . Great seat for what I want out of a custom seat.
Had a Corbin on a BMW once it looked great but was too hard foam wise for me.

So you think Bill Meyer is a good place to do business with?
