Moon Motorsports in Monticello, Mn. has one of the new Super Tenere's until Saturday afternoon 12/18/10. I sat on it , started and and did a detailed look over this morning. My impressions are as follows.
Very easy for me to flatfoot with the seat in the low position I am 5'11" tall and 32" inseam.
Seemed to hide its weight very well in moving it around their showroom and sitting on it and taking it off the side stand. It was full of gas and did not seem at all top heavy.
Saddle bags were terrible. Latches did not work, and we damn near broke the key off fiddling with the bags. I would op for some type of after market bag setup.
Engine sounded great, kind of like a BMW F800 GS twin on steroids.
Factory accessory skid plate looked okay and appeared to cover up the oil filter well.
Seat seemed very comfortable, but we had some trouble trying to set it in the high position.
Handle bars and seat to peg/bar relationship was very good in the standing position on the pegs.
Jury is out for me on the huge muffler setup, seemed kind of cheep looking and somewhat out of place to the rest of the bike.
They had a blue one and the yellow Super Tenere decal really looked like an after thought.
Headlights were way cool and bright.
Does not look like it would be to bad to maintain.
Overall it is a great looking bike, they had it setting tail to tail with a new BMW R1200GS for comparison sake, as they sell BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha.
I presently own a R1200GS 2007 model and am seriously looking at the Yamaha as my next bike. Would I buy it now, yes but I have to wear out the GS a little more first or maybe order one of these and try to sell the GS before it arrives. Decisions, decisions!!!
Just some of my thoughts upon seeing the bike and hearing it run.
