Moon Motorsports in Monticello, Mn. has one of the new Super Tenere's until Saturday afternoon 12/18/10. I sat on it , started and and did a detailed look over this morning. My impressions are as follows.
Very easy for me to flatfoot with the seat in the low position I am 5'11" tall and 32" inseam.
Seemed to hide its weight very well in moving it around their showroom and sitting on it and taking it off the side stand. It was full of gas and did not seem at all top heavy.
Saddle bags were terrible. Latches did not work, and we damn near broke the key off fiddling with the bags. I would op for some type of after market bag setup.
Engine sounded great, kind of like a BMW F800 GS twin on steroids.
Factory accessory skid plate looked okay and appeared to cover up the oil filter well.
Seat seemed very comfortable, but we had some trouble trying to set it in the high position.
Handle bars and seat to peg/bar relationship was very good in the standing position on the pegs.
Jury is out for me on the huge muffler setup, seemed kind of cheep looking and somewhat out of place to the rest of the bike.
They had a blue one and the yellow Super Tenere decal really looked like an after thought.
Headlights were way cool and bright.
Does not look like it would be to bad to maintain.
Overall it is a great looking bike, they had it setting tail to tail with a new BMW R1200GS for comparison sake, as they sell BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha.
I presently own a R1200GS 2007 model and am seriously looking at the Yamaha as my next bike. Would I buy it now, yes but I have to wear out the GS a little more first or maybe order one of these and try to sell the GS before it arrives. Decisions, decisions!!!
Just some of my thoughts upon seeing the bike and hearing it run.

I agree with your comment on the yellow sticker nopork. I removed mine and the "roll of film" sticker on the side.
The seat adjustment should take only a few seconds, its a brilliant idea. Im the same hight as you and find the tenere very comfy on a long trip.
I like the suspension and the gear ratios much better than the b.m.
I'm pleased you looked at it and enjoyed.

I asked that but they didn't seem to know. I will try to call them later today and see if they found out where next, as the Yamaha area rep. should be picking it up today from them.

If the Yamaha area rep. is the one showing the Tenere then that is the reason we don't have one in our area. I met our area rep. and he was the most depressing person to talk about motorcycles to I have ever met. He said " I have a 2010 FJR but I'm just going to sell it, I never ride, I don't know anyone that rides, I don't know one person that would get up and go for a ride befor they have to go to work." I said "Ido." He hadn't even test road the Super Tenere. He needs to go be a Garbage Collector.

Don't worry about the box locks. When you get them they're a bit tight. Lube them up and with use and the known technique they are absolutely no problem. The XT660's boxes are the same. Do take care at first though as you can easily bend the keys. I have seen one broken off in the lock and that's not good.
