Just wanted to show you this, It's in the cemetery in Eldon, Iowa. I have researched about it on the web and this is one of the biggest ones they made.

Another nice Saturday so Michelle and I took off after noon and put in 290 miles. We had Williamson lake as or goal. [ but never found it] In the Stephens St. Forest we found more dirt roads in one area than we have ever seen here in Iowa.

Some where very remote too.

We came across this covered bridge " Hammond "

We where getting close to Harvey , Iowa so I stopped by there bridge to show Michelle.

The water level was low in Lake Red Rock " Iowa's largest lake "

We seen about one other bike out on the roads today, Gold Wing. Come on Adventure riders we need to start riding more.

Looks like nice riding to me... you are really getting a lot of the S10. I turned over 2500 miles today, but I bet you have more. :)

Eric wanted to see if the Tenere could stay with his 990 on real trails, so I popped off the Givi racks [ a 60 second job] and we heeded out for some trail riding.

He knew of some good trails along the Des Moines river.

The trail is so remote you can just make it out in front of the 990

This was steep, coming down Michelle wanted me to shut off the ABS but it worked like it should , great brakes!

All in all it was all the 990 was it's rider just wasn't all that the 990 rider was.

We got out for an afternoon ride today to look for some new dirt roads. About a month ago Eric went on a Dual Sport ride here in southeast Iowa that was put on by Southeast Iowa Riders Club. He wanted to show us some of the roads .

This was the best Iowa dirt road I have seen.

This really is a public open road.

I have found out that the Traction control must be shut off or in the bad stuff it will just come to a stop.

It got pretty steep for a while, Michelle had to hike for a little bit.

It would be tough to get a truck through here, I hate to see winter coming ,this exploring around is too fun.

Rode 200 miles today. I found some good places to see.

Snake Alley is a street located in Burlington, Iowa, once recognized by Ripley's Believe It or Not as the Crookedest Street in the World. Construction of Snake Alley in 1894. Three German immigrants conceived and carried out the idea of a winding hillside street, similar to vineyard paths in France and Germany. Bricks were laid at an angle to allow horses better footing as they descended. Snake Alley consists of five half-curves and two quarter-curves over a distance of 275 feet.

Zebulon Pike was an Army captain in 1806-1807, he led the Pike Expedition to explore and document the southern portion of the Louisiana Purchase and to find the headwaters of the Red River, during which he recorded the discovery of what later was called Pikes Peak.In early November 1806, Pike and his team recorded the sighting of and tried to climb to the summit of the peak that was named after him (Pikes Peak.) Unprepared for the conditions, they made it as far as Mt. Rosa to the southeast of Pikes Peak, and gave up the ascent in waist-deep snow. They had already gone almost two days without food.

This grave isn't even in a cemetery, just along the highway.

Check out this old wooden one lane bridge.

And last is this typical Iowa picture.

Eric ask me yesterday if I wanted to go riding today, DUH So this afternoon we went looking for new dirt and trails.

I'll have to admit that I have been a little intimidated with my bike off road. I got up this morning and put on my new K60 front. It changed everthing, this bike is awesome off road now. I felt very comfortable in mud and trails today.

We went down a cow trail through a creek to get to the trail on the other side.

The temp never got above 34 f today but we worked up a sweat.

There was trail cams in the area so our plates some how got covered in mud.

Well it's Thanksgiving Day and we rode from sun up to sun down. Only 315 miles but a lot of off roading. A warm 63 f today.

We found some atv trails that we had never seen before.

The Tenere will go anywhere.

It's suppose to snow this weekend so I washed up the Tenere and put it away, :'( :'( :'(

Well , We had the day off today so Riding all day was the plan.
Michelle got new Adventure pants and she wanted to try them out.
It never got out of the 30s today so I could try out my new heeted grips and my new tank pads.

We found one of the craziest bridges today, Eric and I crossed it But Michelle wouldn't have anything to do with it.

These dirt roads are just unridable with frozen ice under an inch of mud.

And my new tank pads

Bridges of Madison County
That was the plan for today, I have never seen the movie, but now I have seen all the bridges.
I ended up with 360 miles today and about 75 of that was gravel.
I seen seven covered bridges and four through truss, I like the old through truss better than the redone tourist trap covered bridges.
One of the through truss was a very rare Warren design but it was way out in a field so I will have to wait till dry ground to get a picture.

Up first was a covered bridge in Knoxville Not one of the Madison county movie bridges.

This was a great find but I almost got stuck in the mud getting this picture, way down a dirt road.

This was the only one open to ride through.

Had to get a picture here. John Wayne's birth place.

I needed some fuel SOOOOOO NOOOOO not really

This is the Hastie Station, 1933 and sold fuel for 5 gal, for 97 cents.
