Are you guys seeing the rear brake light stuck on with a defective switch? I just started getting a CC issue (won't set about 2/3 of the time, though the amber on/off indicator works fine every time and no fault codes); but the brake light definitely isn't illuminated when the CC isn't working. In other words, can the switch go bad without resulting in activating the brake light?

I don't know why not. I would assume that the defect may manifest in more ways than one.

My Super Tenere is doing what you wrote. The cruise will work if I never touch the front brake. The cruise light will start flashing and not work once the front brake is used. So, the last time I rode......turned on the cruise once on the move and worked as long as the front brake lever was not applied. That is not practical and I am waiting to have my switch replaced after it warms up and the 10 inches of snow melt next week.

My Tracer 900 GT is still working perfect.....it has a recall for the switch also.

I never received a letter, but from everything I've read I was sure that all gen2 bikes (including my 2015) was part of the recall.

I contacted the dealer where I bought the bike.
They contacted the importer. My VIN number didn't pop up.

I then recalled that when I bought my bike back in 2015 it was out of stock in the country, and the dealer had to get one from Germany.
The dealer then contacted Yamaha Europe, and voilà my VIN number pop up.

I'm getting the switch replaced when my bike is back on the street after winter hibernation.

Just received a second, identical notice from Yamaha. And they even had the same date. I guess they really want me to fix it.
Does anybody have a dealer/mechanic in Atlanta they can really recommend (and who ideally has already done the recall on their bike)?

I'm schedule to get my brake light switch replaced weekend after next. Does anyone know if they are going to need to get into the right side panel to do the work? The reason I ask is that I've got a fair amount of additional wiring in there due to aux lights and power. I get nervous about anyone opening that up and successfully getting it back on (other than me). Especially the upper half.

Or is this just something that happens on the handlebar? My hope is that they don't need to disconnect the battery or otherwise dive into the harness. If they do, I may choose to remove the right side panel myself in their parking lot.

Thanks,

Still no letter from Yamaha. A couple weeks ago I went to my local shop, he ran the VIN, and came up with the recall. He ordered the part for me, but couldn't get me on the schedule for replacement til the end of April. And couldn't give me the part to install myself, citing that it was a safety issue.

I posted mainly to illustrate for the guys who have applicable model year bikes and haven't received the recall notice, don't take that as an indicator that your particular bike's not involved in the recall.

I have a 2014ES, and got the recall notice. It's hard to imagine anyone with a CC equipped Tenere older than 2020 not needing the recall, to be honest. It seems that getting the word out is just a bit hit or miss. (Then again, I suppose Yamaha could have 2 different suppliers for the switch, and a manufacturing issue with only one of them.)

Anyway... my lame-ass dealer won't order the part or make an appointment to do the work until I first drop the bike off - just to keep things as inconvenient as possible. (Surprised, as I would think having to deal with storing my bike for several weeks - or more - would be inconvenient for him, too.) Good times...

I went to my dealer 2 weeks ago. They told me the had ordered the part. When I get there they tell me they can't find the part. Wasted an hour there. It only took a 6 weeks to get the part in.

Got the same response from 2 local Yamaha dealers. Would need to drop off the bike before they would order the part, with no idea how long it would take to arrive. Since this is prime riding season, and I haven't noted any problems, I may wait until winter.

I got my switch replaced today. As I live in Mexico City and the Tenere is a rare beasr here I went to the dealer and it took them a while to figure out if the recall applied or not. It did. They got the part and I explained i wanted to remove the body parts myself. The said yes and gave me a place to work and once the bodywork was off a very young mechanic changed the cable. Very happy I was able to do most of the work as I don't think anyone there knew how to do it.

I stopped by my dealer the other day, and asked about the recall. He said he'd get it ordered, let me know when it came in, and give me a call. I told him about some of y'all having to leave the bikes. He was amazed; thought I was BS'n him.

My cruise control started acting up a few weeks ago. Called my local dealer, gave them my VIN, and they ordered the part. Service manager was very nice on phone; he did warn that when he places the order that my VIN is marked as "recall done". He also said they'd have the part swapped out quicker than the time it would take to check in. I knew that was BS. Part came in in about a week and a half and went in a few days later.
I was the first appointment of the day, and I got there early and removed the side panel (I have Alt Rider crash bars). It still took them a solid three hours.

That was why my tech couldn't believe it when I told him that some dealers required the bike to stay. He said of all the switches that he's replaced, none of them had faulty brakes as a symptom. . . . just CC issues.

I didn't have faulty brakes, but I did observe my brake lights occasionally sticking on.
