Merry Christmas everyone. I am doing my Saddlesore1000 Monday and have been doing a ton of maintenance on the bike. Thank you Jaxx for the filter info. Getting it all set up to my liking. You know the NORMAL stuff ha-ha. I have been reading posts here about the discrepancies of indicated speed to actual speed and I wanted to see the peculiarities of my bike so I hung a GPS on it. Here is what I found for my 2012 S10.
At 70 MPH indicated the GPS actually shows 63.8 mph. But I have to hit 81 mph indicated to reach a GPS speed of 75. So this is well within the 10% margin of error the yammy engineers included in my package. *Joke inserted here..
I am wondering why with the known wheel sizes on the bike and that hasn't changed in I don't know....ever. And its in the 2000's why has this not been fixed?
I have a 2004 dodge ram and the speedo is spot on. Checked it with My local police dept on a few occasions cough cough. If a 2004 vehicle can be right why not a motorcycle?

Just the ramblings in my head. Have a Merry Christmas all and everyone be safe.
Good rides.
James

hey Gator308. Sounds like Monday is going to be fun. I have done 1000 mile days on my 2012 Super T and it is really a good bike for that type of thing. It is for me anyway. I would like a different seat than the stock seat. how ever i have never seen my speed being off much at all. I am always with in 2 mph on the radars at the side of the road. I know a lot of the bike has issues with the speedometers. My jeed has a analog speedo and a digital one and they are 2 mph out from each other on the same vehicle! ha ha.

I used my SPOT tracker and google maps to verify my miles.

Tires have some impact on your speedo accuracy. With the sadly no longer available Mitas E07 my 2014 was spot on, but with the original Bridgestone and now Shinko 705, the speedo is a few miles ahead of my GPS again.
I have done Iron Butt rides on the stock seat with no issues, and I can’t think of any special maintenance I would do for a SS1000. Check tire pressure, oil level, and go.

Hey all, oil and drive oil are changed along with a new air filter and plugs and the bike is packed except for the tank bag. That is for tomorrow. I am using the bubbler app on my phone to track by Spotwalla along with my gps. The route is 1072 miles by google maps so i am curious to see what my odometer mileage is when done. Yep i am looking forward to it. Ride report will come when i am done and recovered. The airhawk seat pad should be a blessing

I've done two Iron Butt rides. 1st in 2012 on my 2009 Buell 1125CR from NJ to Daytona, FL in 17 hours. Then this year, same trip but on my 2017 Yamaha FZ-07. Was a nice ride on both bikes, I can't wait to do my third on my '19 S10.

Good luck and enjoy the ride. I hope the weather is decent for your ride. No problem with the bike, it knows the way. ;)

SS1000 prep on S10 is check oil, tires, add gas and go. Don’t forget your receipts. S10 was made for that sort of thing

Hi guys I know i am late getting back to this but life and the holidays got in the way. I did complete the ride and Michael Kneebone said it ended up being 1092 miles in 20 hours and 5 minutes. My ride was certified and my IBA number is coming soon. I really cant wait.

The bike ran great and i had no issues. My overall MPG was 40.1 MPG for the trip. It would have been nice if I had of had some company but I made it and was pretty wiped out when all was said and done. It was a great way to start the Holidays.

I learned some things.
1. don't drive thru Austin on 35. Stop and go. good for sightseeing not for riding against the clock
2. 290 from Austin to around Oak Hill has a stop light every half mile and I had to stop at every one
3. Fredricksburg on December 23rd is jam packed with Holiday shoppers.
4. the ride up 87 from Fredricksburg to Abilene is beautiful and has nice roads. Most pleasant part of the trip.
5. Magellan GPS sux.
6. did i say Magellan GPS sux. i wiped it and threw it in the dumpster at the whataburger in Abilene. Kept turning off and got me lost.
7. The temperature from Roscoe Texas to Amarillo Texas dropped 25 degrees
8. the wind is always blowing in Amarillo
9. the coffee in Chillicothe Texas is Hot and Good.
10. Beef Jerky and a camel back are fantastic on long rides.
11. start earlier that 8am.
12. Nelson Tankbags are the bees knees.
13. My right wrist and hand are swollen and extremely sore after 20 hours of throttle twisting.
14. Airhawk pads are worth their weight in gold.

Here is my S10 at the Austin gas stop.

All that being said. I cant wait to do it all over again. This time with cruise control.

My 2012 (Gen 1) reads fully 6 mph over the actual GPS speed at 70. 75 indicated is 69 GPS. I've got 2 GPS units so I only look at them.

At end of Sept I did an Iron Butt 'Bun Burner 1500', from Richmond, VA to just short of Denver, about 1600 miles in 35 hours. First day was 5AM departure, stopped for the night at Columbia, MO around 8PM. Day 2 across MO, KS, into CO. Finished at Limon late in afternoon. Mileage was 41.87. Bike was excellent. No performance awards, no deer. Visited my son for 2 days, returned in 2 days.

Back on 5 March I did the SS1000 from home in New Jersey down to Ormond Beach, FL in 19 hours (about 16 of that actually riding). I left my starting fuel stop at 17:00 on the 5th and got to my finish destination on the 6th at noon. Overall for that trip from the 5th to 15th I rode 3,772 miles with a stock S10.
