2000 mile review....Just thought I would follow up. First off this Tenere website is superior to any Africa Twin website I have found. And there are MANY! The format, the content, the knowledge of members top notch. Probably why I keep coming back. I will start with the areas I believe the S10 better. For me anyways. The Tenere is a far better 2up bike. More torque, Bigger and roomier plus the suspension handles excess weight better. Much better interstate bike. In fairness though...I had my Tenere well set up for traveling. Bar risers, Air Hawk on the seat, Madstad bracket and touring windshield. All day in the saddle no problem with fatigue. 80 MPH flowing with traffic was very comfortable. Now onto the AT...
Honda went low budget on the suspension. It is too soft for 2up riding. I don't ride 2up on this bike so not a big issue for me. Even still the Kayabas on the S10 are better than the stock Showas on the AT. Standard AT which I have only has a 5 gallon gas tank. I was hoping for 50MPG but so far only 45MPG. Stock windscreen is okay but will need larger screen for cold weather or long interstate days. Power to weight ratio is very comparable. The AT has plenty of power. Acceleration is fine and even the smaller motor has enough for most even loaded. The Dunlop road tires that come stock are Terrible off road. The AT has the traction control adjustable on the fly which is nice. The ABS brakes can be shut off with the dash switch. I like that as well. When the road turns to dirt I think is where the AT is better. Lighter and more flickable. The AT is as much better off road. The S10 is better on road. My humble opinion anyways. Been riding 52 years and have owned over 60 bikes. I think they are both great bikes.
Agree, I had an Africa Twin for two years and 30,000 km loved it.
Now riding an S10 2018 ES, 27,500 km in 14 months and lovin it as well.
Africa Twin is better at gravel, S10 is a better highway cruiser.
It all depends on what you want to do with the bike

. . . . S10 is a better highway cruiser. It all depends on what you want to do with the bike.
Don't forget sport bike impersonator. :) I am assuming what makes the AT better off road, is not going to help in the paved twisties.

1000% agree. Even though I sold my S10 4 years ago, I lurk around this site cuz there are a lotta good folks here, and a lot of interesting threads going on. Too bad most forums are not even close to this one~!!!!!!!!!
I've stuck around to moderate, even though I don't have my ST anymore either! I really miss it though, and would love to get another, I just can't do it right now...

ive not had a haircut since January....
I've cut my own twice now and I can do a better job than what I was paying for all these years.
I have a plug in electric clipper with several different attachments to control or select the lenght that you want your hair to be. I had to donate some hair from elsewhere to find the correct attachment to use.

Obviously I am a Honda fan, like my Tenere just fine but hopefully will get a chance to take a New Africa Twin equipped with tubeless tires, cruise control and DCT sometime this summer, dealers around here don’t stock them. Hopefully the gearing is better than the Tenere. Since it’s quite a bit lighter and has a taller front wheel I suspect gravel road-off road riding should be improved significantly. I really don’t care for chain drive but could see myself possibly buying one anyway If i am comfortable with everything else.

Will revive this thread instead of starting a new one.
Has anyone moved to CRF1100L (especially ATAS) from S10?

I went the opposite way ... had a 2017 AT DCT and went to an S10. There was plenty to like about the AT, nice sound (had a Remus on but stock sounded well also), it had plenty of poke, looked good (mine was black but I like the Blue, White & Red best).
What I didn't get on so well with was the DCT, ok around town on Sport oddly but on eco it changed up to sixth within about 20 meters :) so often felt like it was labouring a bit. I just used the paddles on the handlebars to go between gears and liked that funnily enough. Wished it had a shaft and tubeless though ... if they had both then the AT would be pretty much a perfect bike.
The S10 just felt like I had put a comfy pair of shoes back on ... just feels familiar and right, probably I am an old stick in the mud and the DCT to much of a change maybe? Great bike the AT though ...

To go tubeless on the AT is easy enough. To turn it to shaft drive, not so much...LOL.
