Fully aware the topic is perennial scuttlebutt, but over on the big thread at the other place there's a user touting their acquaintance with a bonafide youtube user who states that 2021 marks the end of Super Tenere production. Please don't shoot the messenger.

I would be surprised if Yamaha continued with the ST because the engine is an old design and only used in one model which has very limited sales. Manufacturers increasingly use a single engine platform to make a number of bike models because it’s the only cost effective way to build bikes.

100% agree. Euro 5 killed it and the FJR1300 I think. A clean 2019 became availalbe and I decided to trade my 2012 on that this week. Limited to no 2021 leftovers drove my decision.

I'm thinking they'll adapt the MT-10 motor into the Tenere. Meets EURO5, and has the power everybody seems to think the Tenere needs.

True. Yamaha discontinued the ST production in 2020. Mine is one of the last ones that were made. Talking about it with my local dealer, he had no idea what Yamaha was doing to replace it. He said that it must be something new. I don't know what "something new" means. A four cylinders like the MT10? A three cylinders like the Tracer 900? electrical?

The dealer here in the Netherlands was told that the T12 and the FJR are both discontinued because of euro5 regulations. He said “maybe they build something with a 3 cilinder”. He has very good connections with mother Yamaha, being the biggest Yamaha dealer in the Netherlands, by far. So his educated guess is a 3 cil… not my cup of tea.

It's all going to depend on how much Yamaha wants to, or is willing to, spend on a replacement. BMW has the market, Honda has the DCT, Kawi & Suzuki have the low investment price, KTM/Triumph/Ducati has the flash, and even HD seems to be selling more PAs than Yamaha is Teneres. I hardly ever see an FJR, and never a Tenere.

My (UK) dealer quitely suggested there will be a big-adv bike in the future during a service earlier this year, no further details, quite possibly spreading rumours in the hope of discouraging the purchase of certain german alternatives.

My `16 is at 60k miles and every time I start to mull a replacement i spend a few days comparing alternatives and can't find one (though the next big bike may be a 950ADV, for different usage)

Personally, If it's not a big twin with the same level of over-engineering we all love about the S10 I won't be interested, especially if it's an MT-09 on stilts with a tuareg sticker.

They continued to manufacture 2021 models for north America and other parts of the world, They just are not exporting anything to countries that require Euro 5 compliance. 2022 is an unknown but I expect them to continue with BNG for non-euro 5 geographies.

As WJBetrand previously mentioned, Yammy has to know that it must offer an ADV type bike that displaces more CCs than the T7's and is more conducive
to adventure touring both on the slab and off because that particular market has a strong global following and buyers that seem to increase every year.

I See us likely getting a xtz1000 or 900 using the mt 10/09 powerplants. keep a larger adv bike to keep up with the ktm,bmw bigger adv touring sized bikes. We'll likely also see a baby tenere in a 300/400cc size. With as huge as adv is to the motorcycle industry currently and the diversity of the riders in wants for bike sizes its great for business to diversify.

I'd bet on a 1100-1200 triple as the new big ADV platform for Yamaha.
Or they could revamp the parallel twin concept.

Either way, it's too big a market to ignore. Not so sure shaft drive will survive though. The GS was the benchmark last time, not sure that will be the case again.

The only negatives about a shaft drive is the weight, and parasitic power loss. Neither of which are likely to be a deal breaker. They would be for an R1m, but not for something that's going to be load like a mule, and driven down a goat path.

If/when they replace the current version of the Tenere, it's gonna have to be something crazy better for me to make the switch. But, that's just me. I also special ordered my Jeep with no bells or whistles; had to wait two months for it.

Or, proven wrong.
Doubtful, since at some point the Super Tenere line will end, which is what I said. If you predict every year that the bike will be discontinued, you'll inevitably eventually be right. To be proven wrong, Yamaha will have to keep the bike around until after the heat death of the universe. I suppose it's theoretically possible for the last two things in a depleted universe to be Hawking radiation and a Yamaha, but I have my doubts.
