I have a Russell Day long saddle up for sale. It has maybe 500 miles on it. I love the seat but have all but quit riding the last year in order to do other things. This is a vinyl covered seat. I am 5-11, 32" inseam and weigh 175. It does not have the heavy duty suspension that RDL offers for heavier people. It is in "like new" condition. I need $475 plus shipping. Thanks for looking. PM me with questions.

As someone who lives outside the lower 48 states, I'm always intrigued when I read this line attached to almost every "for sale" post.

I imagine the seller wanders in to FedEx or something, the item gets boxed and weighed and there is a shipping fee to be paid. If the buyer is agreeing to and likely already paid the shipping fee to the seller, why does the seller care where the buyer lives?

Is this some USA vs the rest of the world thing? Like there's no way my Tenere widget is getting into the hands of a non 'Merican!

Is it that there are lots of papers to fill in if the box is going to be flown over the wall? A big, BEAUTIFUL Wall...

Do "48 state Mericans" hate Alaskan and Hawaiian Americans?

Can anyone who has bought or sold an item with the "only to the lower 48" rule explain it?

Ooooook, I'll admit it. I hate to do the extra paperwork associated to sending it to different countries.

I'm interested if the sale falls through. Can have it sent to a US address.

As far as shipping to HI or AK the only difference to the seller is who is paying the shipping. If the buyer is paying, nothing changes for the seller. If the seller is paying, the cost is a lot more.

As a Canadian it’s one of the crosses we “bear”. Things that are free shipping in the USA sometimes cost more that the value of the item to ship to Canada, because you’re essentially paying twice to mail it. Also probably because no one wants to do the 5 minutes of paperwork it takes to send something across a border. So those of us lucky enough to live within a hour of the states have PO boxes just across the border for these reasons.

It's real simple. I can measure & weight the box and ship it to anywhere in the cont US for $XX.XX. I have shipped 100's of packages and if the buyer is outside cont US, they will always "agree" to pay extra in shipping. So you pack it up, spend your lunch hour in line at the main post office(since most sub-stations can only do cont US), get the cost, contact the buyer, & get told "that's too much!". Not worth the hassle, cont US shipping only for me. That's the answer to our post.

Now to comment on your post, please keep your political BS out of a for sale thread. It's just rude and disrespectful.

No political BS that I could see. I can't see how you can misconstrue not wanting to mail stuff to a rider in Hawaii as political.

In my post I said the buyer is paying, so I'll ignore your "that's too much!" comment. I do take on board that you don't want to spend your whole lunch hour in line. That is a drag. Perhaps that's the USPS?

Last time I was in the US and shipped stuff home to Oz (that's Australia, for those with access to maps*), I just walked in to FedEx, went up to the empty counter, put my stuff in a box, filled in the paperwork and was out the door in a few minutes. With reference to the above I was role playing as both the 'seller' by being in FedEx of course, as well as the 'buyer' by using my credit card.

In Australia we're a small market and a long, long way from the majority of Tenere riders in here - you're mainly in the US and Europe it seems - so we've come to rely on a steady stream of parcels from up north.

My comment was broader, though, as I see the same "lower 48" rule excluding those across the pond*.

ps I note that the OP has deleted the "only to the lower U.S."
