Ya, shit happens, one has to take the good with the bad. some time all the armor one wears and all the setup on the bike one does will not ever guarantee a non-bruising day.
But the more you doit the better you get, one thing is sure, off road crashes in general hurt but won't kill you, unlike road crashes.
Ride within your comfort zone not of what others say, take it slow and easy at first, your gut will tell when your ready for more. Expect to eventually go down and when you do let the bike go, don't fight it or you may be hurt a lot more.
I have gone down lots off road on the S10 and other then bruises and minor scrapes have always walked away with no more then a hurting pride.
My big question and most important one to ask your self is.
How important is the S10 or any bike cosmetics to you, a lot of guys, including my self try to protect the bike when going down and that is when you can get really hurt.
Food for thought, parts are repairable, replaceable, the body may not be as easy.
Your age and being fit is another big one, we all think we are 20yrs old other then most of us will not bounce back like a 20yr old.
Im in the let it go club.

I haven't bounced back like a 20 yr old for about 56 years now and counting. I bounced back from a 55 mph highway dismount at age 21 with nothing but bruises when a full sized Chevy station wagon (this was 1968) pulled out in front of me. I launched myself off the pegs, flew over him and landed on my helmet (cracked it) and tucked and rolled to a stop. I was wearing a nylon windbreaker that got a pinhole in one elbow, but no other apparent clothing issues. I doubt I'll ever be that lucky again, but I still ride even though parts for my body model year are extremely hard to find any more.

So am I. But in this case there wasn’t time to even think about that option. The front wheel hit a rock and the bike immediately stopped dead and flipped onto its side with me underneath.

Theres not much you could have done. Given the weight of the bike and going slow it will tip over easily. No point putting a leg out.

I’m now leaning towards the Rukka Kingsley jacket which is aimed more towards the touring market and so probably better meets my needs. It’s been around for a while now so I’m just waiting a bit longer to see if an update is due or not.

Got my new Rukka Kingsley jacket last week. It replaced my Rukka Armas jacket that is 10 years old. I was wearing the Armas when I fell off recently and broke a load of bones. It got me thinking how I might have faired if I had been wearing a modern jacket with the latest protection. The Kingsley certainly has better D30 armour and fits better so I can be certain the armour will stay in place better. I think it’s called the Shield - R in some countries.
