I just recently bought a used 2013 S10 and it came with the Rostra cruise control. Now it has been working great until Friday night I was on a motorcycle camping trip and my bike was outside in the pouring rain. So Saturday it started acting up. When I push the on button now instead of the light illuminating green like it has always done it is orange. I’m thinking maybe water got into it and ruin it but I’m not sure that’s the case. The previous owner said he sealed the switches really well. Any help would be appreciated

I've seen where people are taking the switch apart and sealing it with silicone. I need to do mine.

Ok so after testing everything and finding no issues I decided to test ride the bike and see if it would work. So now the cruise is working fine. I’m assuming the switches dried out finally and is why it works now

lots of folks use silicone to seal joints because it is very durable and you can take the sealed surfaces apart. The problem is it is also a non stick material and will eventually release from any surface. An early sign it is releasing is when it begins "wicking" moisture between the sealant and the surface.

As a rule, Silicone sealer should be redone regularly. The interval depends on material, environment and end use. I cannot tell you how long it will last but for now I would strip off all the old seal and replace it with fresh.

Yes, this applies to your bathtub too.

Great to hear that you got it working. The control pad was sealed at around 10,000 miles with fish tank silicone which is supposed to less acidic and safer for electronics. If it happens again I would pull it apart and reseal.

Thanks again for all your help. The cruise control is a great feature I absolutely love and want to keep it working.

I recently bought one of these Rostra cruise control units for my 2013 S10, but I am having trouble with some of the wiring. Everything seems to be fine except for the Relay that goes into the brake light switch. For some reason whenever I push the brake it blows the signal fuse. It is definitely the relay wiring that is causing the fuse to blow because if I disconnect the relay it doesn't blow.

I used the hot and cold wires from the brown 2 pin connector in the Junction bundle underneath the gas tank. The yellow cold brake wire seems to have a positive 4 volts running all the time instead of a full ground.

And because the cruise control module isn't getting an adequate ground because of this relay wiring not working I can't go through the Diagnostics and test the rest of it.

Can someone please help meo_OIMG_20190727_162743.jpg
