I'd like to see the Yooper, but don't have a week, so I need to make good use of time and miles. I'll probably do this the last week in July/ 1st week in Aug., or the last 2 weeks in August.

I plan to enter the state from the Kingdom of Wisconsin at Menominee and spend 2 nights in country, before heading south back to that far off land known as Missouri. I may camp, if I am feeling really manly and stupid, or I may do credit card camping. Not that camping is stupid.... camping is cool. I just really, really suck at it. I do it every couple of years just to remind myself of why God created motels for people like me.

I'd like to go up to Grand Marais and see the maritime museum, but beyond that, I could use some suggestions as to whether I should hang out west of there or go on east, to get the most bang for the buck. If it helps, I really like shorelines and water--- feels like home, since I spent my early years on or near it.

I'd rather not spend all my time doing major miles to get from point A to B, but actually SLOW down and see the sights (a major departure for me since I GOTTA see what's over the next hill).

I could either reenter WI at Marinette or Ironwood for the dash south back to "America's Hometown"

So, any suggestions on routes for this tourist to ride, and things that are must see's are greatly appreciated. I might only get to do this once, and wish I could do the long tour.

Thanks.

Wife surprised me by wanting to go, so we towed the bike the 600 miles to Ironwood, MI. We rode up to Copper Harbor and spent the night in Houghton, and back to Ironwood the next day. Hit the small towns along the way on the scenic roads for a look-see. Had lots of good food and drink, but I gotta say, it really helps if you like trees if you want to ride that part of the country.

Nice roads, but I found I want to return to the lakes area around Minocqua, WI for a longer visit and some fishing. Actually, I'm happy to find I'd just as soon ride SW Wisconsin or northern Arkansas since they are a lot closer. Still it was fun to check out new venues.

Awesome pictures and trip. I went to college in Houghton and never miss an opportunity to go up. Wish I would have seen this thread earlier. There is an old NASA launch site about 7 miles past the end of US41. H58 north east if Munising is great too.

I'll be riding Wi/Mn out of LaCross in 3 weeks, and might go back north a ways. Should be a bit cooler than it was a few weeks ago.
