hi guys,

i,ve bought a new starter relay, the one above the battery, with 2 leads connected to it and 2 30a fuses, quick question really, do i have to disconnect the battery
to do this, or can i undo the 2 leads carefully keep them apart, pull the jack plug off as well, and then new one on 2 leads back on and plug job done

not sure if i need to touch the battery

Personally I would never change the starter solenoid without first disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery. It's too easy for something to go wrong when you have a spanner on the bolts and I don't like arc welding
ok rob,

so disconnect the neg on battery before swopping over

Rob make sure you have a good hold of it before you undo anything as the relay is just sat on a rubber.

been here before, about 3 yrs ago, i had that click click and nothing, press again click click and nothing then bang it fired, i thought battery,
so bought a new yuasa 14s, but soon as i put that on it did the same click click nothing, anyway it turned out to be even tho it looked good, the plug that fits on the starter relay and the spade connectors on the relay were badly corroded,
so the mechanic cleaned them up well and its been spot on for 3 yrs, but now i,m getting it again click click 2 times then fires, once your out then it fires every time that day,
mechanic said if this returns replace the starter relay, ive had them apart and they look clean, but i,ll put a new relay in see if that does solve it

Another thing you can do, Rob, is jump the two red wires on your solenoid and see if it tries to turn over. If it does, it is your solenoid, but if it still clicks, it is most likely your battery. Hopefully, it is not your starter.

funny thing is i haven,t put the new relay in yet just cleaned the connections on the plug that attaches to it, today first press 1 click and nothing
second press bang fired up
before cleaning the connections day before 1 press click click, 2nd press click click, 3 rd press bang fired up
once its fired you can go out all day riding and stop as many times as you like and the bike fires first time and runs all day then

That was exactly the same issue with my MT01 about 6 or 7 years ago, new (aftermarket) solenoid cured it and no problem since
