Hmm haven't updated this in awhile.
So while waiting on parts I got around to cutting the oil filter apart to give it a look see.
A quick run around the lip with a Dremel gets it apart. I was quite pleased with the overall construction of the Yamaha (Denso) filters.
As expected I found savings inside the filter on the dirty side.
I peeled the filter element apart in a few places to check the clean side and all looked well. The abundance of lacquer at the top and bottom of the filter to hold it together is a good thing but did make this job a little more difficult. Inferior filters come apart a lot easier which risks internal blowouts.
Next on the list was waiting for parts. And waiting. And waiting. Finally nearly a month later I had all the necessary parts together.
Am I starting out with a tasty burrito?
Not this time. These cheap to-go containers you can get in three packs from the dollar store for, gasp!, a dollar are great for soaking your friction plates. I always soak overnight ahead of time.
No real pictures in process as I was chugging away. Lots of time spent thoroughly clearing out any chance of debris and making gasket mating surfaces shine. In goes the new Barnett pressure plates and springs. The kit comes with three sets of springs you can mix and match, six 32 lb, six 55 lb, and 6 70 lb. I went for almost full strength and used 3x 55 lb and 3x 70 lb for a combined spring rate of 375 lbs. We'll see how I like it.
No ride yet as the wifey got home just as I was finishing warming it up and checking oil level. I do, however, need to grab some English muffins for breakfast tomorrow and do think I'll be riding the Super Pig to accomplish that goal.
