Hi, does anyone have instructions, with pics of how to remove the cat in the header pipes?
Thanks ::008::

The easiest way is to remove the stock headers and install Arrow headers... Can't go wrong with these and you still have the stock ones undamaged (the stock ones are expen$ive!).

Thats what I did. Highly recommended. Tabasco sells the Arrow headers here.

Gutted mine and you can't tell it was done. You do need the tools to cut open pipe and weld back together. What difference does expensive make if your not going to use them?

For 2012 it probably isn't an issue for anybody. But rumor has it that 2013 bikes will have to pass a smog check here in Kalifornia. Whether that's just a visual, where yours would pass a visual, or if they plan on sniffing things.

Now that could make a difference. Of course this mod is for off road use only. :)

I was just about to post something about Kal-I-forn-I-A but you guys did.... I understand that to be true. If you are in that state and want to do the mods you really need to keep your stock stuff. This is so you can turn your bike back to stock if need be for a 'check'. You are probably grandfathered in, but if your in that state I would FOR SURE keep your stock stuff...

And also if you ever wanted to sell the bike or trade-in, it is always good to have the stock parts. Some dealers/end-users prefer to get a stock bike instead of a pimped bike. That way you can always put the stock parts back-on and sell the aftermarket parts yourself and make some extra money.

+1. Space is at a premium where I'm at, but you can bet I'm keeping all of the stock parts...might even keep a stock ECU on hand. Life was simpler when I just had the D-tracker for awhile, because 250cc and below don't go through road-worthiness inspections and smog checks. My displacement was closer to 350cc and I had every performance mod under the sun, so putting it back to stock form would have been a tall order. >:D

I know this is an old thread but it was before my time here - did you take any photos when you removed the CC? Just looking to see specifically where to open the pipe.

Not worth the effort unless someone can document the advantage.
I had the Arrow header but sold it quickly. You'll need a PVC/ Auto tune to get the bike to run properly after the change. An expensive and slippery slop and no concrete evidence to document the improvements.

emissions on bikes is horrible, I had an 02 Vstrom 1000 in phoenix, bone stock and it failed the sniff test at emissions. :)) :'( But somehow my KTM300 2 stroke could pass????

Only thing that bike had done to it was some Jesse bags/crash bars/seat/bar riser

FAILED!!!!

PASSED????

I can only hope they don't do sniff tests here in California. AZ even discontinued motorcycle sniff tests as they are ineffective.

If you put those arrow headers then it means the tail is not stock anymore but also arrow. In other words are they compatible?

I understand the arrow headers work with the stock can in the same way the arrow can works with the stock headers.

I think there is an option to go without O2 sensors with those headers. They make sensor delete gizmos to make things work. Dunno about the other ramifications of deleting the O2 sensors though. S'posed to run stronger because it's being faked into running richer.

What apart from all the folks that have fitted Arrow headers and provided before and after power curves (like myself)

I gained about 6BHP from the headers alone, with the Flash it was around 10BHP more, the headers gave noticeably better breathing up top, the Flash totally transformed the part throttle response and mid-range.

The only issue is fuelling with headers alone is poor, and possibly dangerously so, but if you have the extra cash to sort the fuelling and would like more power then it is well worth the effort...

Just monsters the stock engine throughout the range, and feels like a bigger gain than the graph suggests, just soooo much grunt from 2k - 5k :)

Yep, letting the motor breath better and then controlling the fuel and timing it turns it into a beast.... If someone where looking to just remove the cats and that's all there doing I wouldn't even bother.. You wont tell anything with an otherwise stock bike... If you have a muffler and add arrow headers or remove the cat 'I' would suggest adding fuel, you are going to need it...
