Love my ACD plate. Went to the front stud setup and that makes things nicer for sure. It can be a little fiddly the first couple times getting it off and on, but after you get a sequence, it is pretty quick. For me, I have it off the bike in about 5 minutes for an oil change and then probably back on in about 10 minutes. I don't consider it too cumbersome to handle alone. I don't get crazy with drops, so it's just been gravel and the odd bottom scrape...nothing to bend it seriously out of shape, but it's been perfect. Never a scrape in the corners either.

Stays on the bike year-round.

Also have the ACD skid plate. I did the stud conversion which really helped in mounting/dismounting the plate, but I kept thinking could it be modified for quicker oil changes especially when on extended rides.
I cut the hole for filter access and also added a couple of 1 inch holes to get at the oil drain plugs. I would imagine these mods may weaken the plate a small amount, but it has taken some pretty good hits and been straightened without any problems. I find changing oil on the side stand keeps most of the mess to one side of the plate so clean up isn't to bad.
It recently got painted black and moved over to my next Tenere.

But what do you do for the vent hoses on the Ravetech? Both side just lay in the plate?
Yeah, the coolant overflow hose is just laying in there. The two fuel tank vent hoses on the left are also tucked inside the plate but end about 1” forward of the front drain plug cutout. Hasn’t been an issue.

Rumbux are 100% bomb proof and ready for battle, ACD combined with Altrider crash bars are the next best (what I run) a close second and the rest are splash guards in my opinion.

I'd put RideOnADV ahead of Rumbux in the hardcore in the domain of break the bike first. But by the point that you go through either, you'll have bigger problems.

Thought i'd continue in this thread regarding some skid-plates.. Everyone is praising the Rumbux, but the thing is; I already have crashbars installet (I think they are Touratech´s?) so my question is: can I buy just the Rumbux plate or do you need the whole set ink. crashbars?

If my bars are the Touratech version, are there any advantages for me to buy their skidplate aswell? Or perhaps any brand that's impossible for me to install because of my bars?

Anyone that know any other brands in Europe (besides touratech) that sells any skidplates?

<giggle> You just called Touratech style bars "crash bars". Nope. Lay out some carpet or a blanket and lay your bike on it's side. You'll quickly see how limited the protection is. Then there are the weaknesses in the mounting points. It usually collapses upon impact.

The Super Tenere has a side mounted radiator and fan. The TT bars offer virtually no protection where it counts. They look great, but style points don't get you home.

The ACD skid plate is from Spain. You can buy direct from them. http://www.acd-parts.com/

edit: Sorry, didn't answer your question about Rumbux. No, you can not buy just the skid plate, it's an integrated system design. The skid plate bolts to the lower engine crash bar cage, (bash frame in Rumbux speak), which is frame mounted. The upper bars are both frame mounted and bolted to the lower bash frame.

I wish I could sell Rumbux to you, but no way for me to ship to the UK for any kind of reasonable price. Too big a box.

Most skid plates can play well with a variety of crash bars. Some require modification or spacers where they share a mounting point, if they do.

Yeah, im not planning on going serious offroading, but I was going to get a plate, because i do want to ride gravel. And today when I went out with a friend we did some high speed riding on firm, solid dirt roads with loose gravel. All I could think of was that unprotected oil filter and the general gravelblasting beneath the bike! But.. The season is ending within 2 weeks here (Sweden) and Im not a winterrider so Im planning the winter-farkling! :) Thx again for your help! =)

Right now Im looking at the Ravetech model with the extra plate. I sent a message to Ravetech but I'll give it a go here aswell; Anyone know if the Ravetech plate + extra interferes (cant be mounted) if you have touratechs wannabecrashbars ;) fitted?

If the TT bars are using the front motor mount bolts, then mounting points appear to be shared with the Ravetech skid plate. That doesn't mean it's not possible, but some work around may be required. Hopefully Ravetech will get back to you with a definitive answer, but if they don't know, ask for a pdf of the installation instructions and compare that with the TT instructions, (which can be found on their web site, as I recall).

Don't know about the touratech bars but my Givi bars also use the front motor mounts. The bolts that came with the Givi bars are a bit longer than the OEM bolts and were plenty long enough to accommodate the Ravetech mount as well. Another note is that even under fully compressed, bottoming conditions, the Ravetech does not interfere with the Fender Extender and with the extra splash plate installed the catch point at the front edge of the plate is eliminated.

Update! Got an answer from Ravetech:

"No problem with the skid plate fitting the older Tenere and with regards to the Touratech crash bars they will share the same front mounting position but simply fit the skid plate mount under the Touratech mount."

(I asked if they would fit my Gen 1)
