Random switching between sport and touring mode.

I have a 2015 that I purchased from the original owner in November with approx 5000 miles. I have put about 500 miles on the bike. I initially had problems with hitting the touring mode switch instead of the run button. I thought I had learned better. Today while riding I noticed the bike was in touring mode instead of sport mode. I was pretty sure I had not touched the mode button. Slightly later when I looked down to check my speed I saw it switch from sport to touring mode with no button pushing. Over the rest of the ride, 2-3 more miles, I saw it switch from sport to touring mode a couple more times. It seemed to do it when decelerating or accelerating but was random and did not do it predictably.

I will open up the left control pod and look for problems with the switch. I will probably spray with an electronic contact cleaner.

I did a search and could not find any posts on this issue. Any comments, ideas, or suggestions.

I've heard of a plastic bit getting broken inside the housing from a force pushing in on the switch instead of sliding it. Don't know if you can press it hard enough with your thumb to break the piece or if it takes some kind of impact? It will be interesting to hear what you find.

Deceleration switching makes sense since you can intentionally do it that way. Sounds like broken, stuck or shorted switch.

Nailed it in one try!:D

Just an update. I found a small chip of plastic lodged in the slide switch for changing modes. I did look like the switch was broken from pushing in instead of sliding sideways. The mode switch on a Gen 2 is about where the start switch on a Gen 1 is located. This could have happened when I first switched from my Gen 1 to a Gen 2.

The little chip of plastic cost around $70 to repair.

Thanks for posting! Mine does this, too. I've never been 100% it's not my imagination.
Mine was random and at first I thought it was my imagination or I was hitting the switch by mistake. I knew it was a problem when it switched from S to T when my hand was nowhere near the switch and I --saw-- it go from S to T with --no-- input from me. It has not done it since I locked the switch in position.

I finally received my new right side control pod, the one with the power mode switch. After looking a what would be required to replace the entire control pod and wiring harness I decided that it would be way easier to replace just the broken mode switch. I used a soldering iron to removed the wires from the old and new power mode switches and then I soldered the new switch to the old wiring harness. It took about 10 minutes. I guess there was some risk of ruining the switch in the process but I decided to take my chances.

I have attached a picture of the old switches prior to removing the wires.power mode switch.jpg

Well, since you advised that it can be locked in place....and save $70....if I do it, that will be MY fix. I never use "T" anyway. Congratulation on your fix though.

Disassemble and study the switch to understand what you are doing. Make sure it is in the mode you want and then modify the switch so it won't move. Disassemble the switch and then fix it in place however you feel will keep it from moving. Hot glue so it can't move maybe. Your choice as you are making the choice to make it "not a switch"
