So here is a picture of me on my old V Strom DL650A Adventure. Two things to take from the picture is one, it is raining and two I am smiling. Living in the deserts of the southwest it is pretty easy to avoid riding in the rain. I have missed bad weather most of my riding career. I got caught in a couple of monsoon downpours and I was quite frankly terrified. I told myself that I was going to learn to ride in the rain and embrace the experience. So when I knew it was going to rain I took the bike out to learn all the good, bad and ugly of liquid sunshine. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone makes you a better rider and more confident in your abilities. Other that riding in denim jeans this particular ride it was a blast. I know there are plenty of you Winter Soldiers out there so you know what I am talking about. I do the same with extreme heat and cold.012.JPG

Last time I willingly rode in the rain was back when I was in San Diego. Rain grooved concrete, good tires, and warm rain. With the chip seal roads around here, I don't care what tires you have, you best beware.

Because we can go months between rains the oil can build up on the roads and make for a very unpleasant experience. A little time to wash them off helps alot.

Yeah, he rides in the snow. o_O In his defense . . . . where he lives. . . . if he didn't. . . . he'd have a short riding season. :D

Well you would be welcome to come across the pond, we have no shortage of rain here! For me it comes down to the riding kit and making sure it can deal with the weather here. We have a lot of poorly surfaced roads as well!

I got caught in snow in February 2020, in France on my previous bike. I was grateful for years of riding experience in bad weather, I'm sure it helped.
