Question about top case width with Jesse panniers

I just got a new 2012 in Raven on Friday. I now have to sell my old bike before I can purchase panniers, and I have about settled on Jesse 9 in. Safari or 10 in Odesey when the time and money comes. I am thinking of going ahead and putting a Shad Sh45 or SH48 on now to have a place for my helmet and jacket. My question is will the width of these top cases interfere with the opening of the lids on the Jesse panniers? They are 22.2 in and 24 in wide based on model. If anyone has one of these top cases will they hold 2 full face helmets. If someone has Jesse panniers installed how wide is the space between them? Thanks for any info. I don't want to buy a top case now only to have it interfere with the panniers later. I figure crash bars and top case will be first accessories.

I have the 11" Safari's (they are effing huge) with the Jesse top box, and everything fits nice. With the stock height luggage rack, you can likely get away with any top box you want.

I've got the 10" Odyssey panniers and it is 16.5" between the them. My top box sets right on the oem rack and it's 17" wide and the lids clear it fine. The panniers can be spaced out a little more if needed. Hope this helps.

My Boxes are hopefully on a UPS trunk coming down from Portland today.......I got the "effing"...11' monsters.....did you guys leave your passenger handles on?
I would like a top box but I am leery of the weight distribution issue......this is a wife inspired two up situation and I am not really sure how to weight manage the load.
For my part I am 22 lbs into a 35 lb weight loss program trying to lighten the load.

I bought a used 2012 Tenere that the previous owner added a Givi top case. Not sure which model it is. I bought the Jesse 10" hard bags, and mounted the bags in as close as I could. I wanted the bike to be as narrow as possible, and the center of gravity to be as close as could be. See link below to pictures of how narrow my Jesse bags are mounted. With the Givi mounted, I can not open the Jesse bags. It is a bit of a hassle, but doesn't bother me enough to move things around, or buy another, smaller top case. When I use all three, I try to put the things I need quickly or often in the top case, other, less used items in the bags. I usually do not use both the hard bags and the top truck at the same time, so it's fine with me.

If that top case was 24 in wide would the panniers still open? The shad top cases I am looking at, one is 22.2 wide and the other is 24 wide.

I went out and stuck one pannier on and measured. If the bottom of the box was flat the lid would only clear about 9" from the center of the rack, but as in the picture below shows, the Shad box is 24" at the center, but really tapers off at the bottom. And I just put a block of wood on the rack and going straight out it was 9" from the center to where the lid would hit it. That would handle an 18" flat bottom box. Plus I think the Shad box would be up one to two inches above the rack.

Maybe someone else has the Jesse's along with a Shad or Givi box that would know for sure.

I left the passenger grab bars on, I use the center stand often and that handle is awfully convenient. I figure I would take the bags off when I get to camp. Plus the handles provide additional tie down locations.

I went with the 11"ers so that I can carry my work computer bag without having to tie it down... They are big though, I am getting use to them.

I got a set of jessies. One thing about taking handles off is the rack runs into the exhaust shield so going narrower is a nogo. On the other hand if U run aftermarket pipe jessie offers a kit to move them closer. I kept my handles. They come in handy when trail is narrow and U wat to drag the ass of the bike 180

Thanks.....trying hard.....want to throw the BP and Cholesterol poison in trash for last time.....

My boxes came to night......sweeeeeet........black on black......great craftsmanship looks like a real quality product. Apples and oranges compared to the OEM boxes I had on my GSA. Nothing against any other makes of boxes but these babies look like an industrial tool box compared to the 1 mm aluminum. Mounting up tomorrow and then a nice long ride in the rain...
did not mean to pirate thread with my personal events......bad ass boxes

Thanks for the measurements OldRider, it dawned on me that the Shad boxes have a base plate that stays on the bike and the box can be quickly removed from it, so if the base plate is narrow enough the box could be removed to access the panniers, if the box was too wide.
I sent an email to Shad last night asking for the width of the base plates.

FYI, I emailed both Shad and Twisted Throttle for the measurements of the base plate with the SH45 case that mounts on the bike. So far Shad has not responded, but Twisted Throttle sent me an email with a picture of the base with a guy holding a tape measure across it and gave me the dimensions in writing. That base plate is 13 in. wide and 9 1/2 inches front to back, so according to OldRider's measurements, it should work just fine with the Jesse's. If the top case is too wide, it just pops off the base that is mounted to the bike and then the Jesses will be easy access. And, Twisted Throttle is where I will be ordering the Shad from.
