I installed the lock in the OEM top case this morning, and put the case on the bike. Thanks to all the input and experiences from so many of you, I had an easy time putting the lock in the case -- thank you! ::012:: However, with the lid down and locked, it does not fit tight. There is a gap at the front, that appears to be about 1/8" to 1/4". Everything appears to be in proper working order. The lock works great. So, what is up with the lid not being held down tight when it is clearly locked? Anyone else have this experience?

OEM lids have multiple issues but in my opinion they are not worth the price, but that doesn't help you. It sounds like you have a defective case, see your dealer.

That was my first step. They (PCP Yamaha) were helpful, even did a hose test (spraying it with a stream of water) to check to see if it sealed or not. It seems water tight. They also said they would contact their Yamaha rep, and get back to me. So, for now I will use the case, and see what happens.

I took the seal out cleaned and lubed it and refitted. It doesn't leak and never has just every now and then gets out of whack. Just re-seat the seal and it's all good again.

I thought that gap was "normal" for these OEM cases? ???

They are quite functional but obviously not exactly the same quality, durability, and finish of the aftermarket options out there.

Nice tip, Swagger. I may see if I can pop my seal out for a cleaning and refitting to get it tighter.

i also think that the gap is "normal" - if you look at the underside of the lid, either side of the locking mechanism (the bar that the latch closes over - if that makes sense) there are spring loaded 'feet' that push against the box and hold the lid pressed up against the locking mech. These 'feet' are quite tightly sprung and i think it is this that causes the gap.

I agree with the previous two posts. A little gap is completely normal and part of the design.

While I believe you are all correct, my new question is: "Do any of us want to be normal?" ::021::

Agreed about the gap being normal. I'm on my 2nd S10 and 2nd set of OEM panniers and would bet you're just fine. The compressibility of the perimeter seal begins at the hinge side upon closure and can/does leave a small gap at the rear. I believe this gap is the play that's required to compress the seal for closure. I haven't experienced any ingress of water of dust/dirt.
