if its the one on the right standard 12v one, i think you need to take off right fairing panel to get underneath it as its got a big plastic lock nut on it

like in the picture, it has a lock nut underneath the plastic panel its fixed to, so to get at it the right panel needs to come off

not seen many for the gen 1 of those, yer take the right panel off you should be able then to see the underside where the luck nut is the cable on the auxillary socket has a white plug

Just reach down there as they are usually not too tight. If yours is, a pair of pliers or small Channel Locks ought to work.

As I recall I used the tip of a blade screwdriver to loosen the nut. It, the nut, has raised indents on it that the screwdriver tip can push against. Easier than trying to negotiate a pair of pliers in that tight area.

This. I used a flat blade to catch one of the sprocket teeth on the nut and tapped it to get it started. Removing the side cover is not necessary.

can you get to the 12v aux socket,s 2 pin plug to pull out without taken the side panel off

i,m going to replave my 12v socket any day now i,ve got a usb version 2 wires and a new yamaha 2 pin plug on it ready for straight swop

i thought you would need to get panel off to get at the plug attached to the socket, am i wrong

Depends. The connector for the plug is behind the side panel. If your new USB socket has a couple of spade connectors it may be possible to simply cut the current wires off the existing plug, crimp new spade(female) connectors to the wire ends and plug those into the new socket without removing the side cover.
