Just wondering if anyone has Plasti-dipped their tank fender and top faring? I was thinking of changing the color of my Matt Gray and from the Plasti - Dip website it looked pretty cool how they were doing motorcycle parts and then peeling the stuff off if you didn't like it. Might be worth a try to see how I would like the colors before I have a shop do it or just to change the color and then go back to factory when I decide to jump to the ES model. :p

I've done a few bikes like this. Not gas resistant at all! but does protect the finish, you can remove it, very flat finish unless you add the glossifier.

I used it and it on a tail section of a bike and it didn't hold up too good . I would suggest using the P.D. Primer and the clear topcoat.

I've read a few post where people have tired this. Overall it seemed they were fairly satisfied with the results, but a LOT of people said not to even try doing your tank. Your keens pretty much break it down and it starts to come off pretty quickly after put on. If you drip a drop of gas on it, it will eat it off like acid.

Try this http://www.eastwood.com/paints/elastiwrap-coatings.html Works great! I don't know how the gas will react with it though. Just give them a call they are super good with cust. service.

Remember that unless you're a Plasti Dip pro, you are NOT going to get that smooth texture look that you see in photos. You're going to get some bumpy mess that will look like matte black but won't be anywhere near smooth. For the smooth look, you need to figure out a proper PD mixture, proper spray gun, and know how to sand it if you screw up the spraying to smooth it out. You can find videos on youtube but it ain't easy.

Also, for the knee issue, just toss on some tank guards for the knee area and you'll be fine there.

I sprayed the inside of my skidplate to help with noise (fail) and while it looked good at first, was never the same after I drained the oil with the plate mounted. Peels away easy but a huge waste of time and effort.

I have dipped car wheels, bike fairings and tanks, wheels, and all sorts of other random parts, and really this simply isn't the case. Buy a couple of cans of black, and practice on a couple pieces of scrap. Watch YouTube videos. By the time the cans are empty you will be able to achieve a uniform even, smooth, nice finish on your Tenere with the PD cans. I will say that if you want to get complex by layering colors and adding glossifiers etc. then yes, you will get better results with a gun, but for parts as small as what you're doing on an S10 cans are completely fine.

The front bumper cover on my Nissan Frontier was done in Plasti-Dip and lots of glossifier. It still looks flatter than the body paint on the fenders and hood, and over time has picked up weathered gray stains where rain runs down.

I'm like Davesax36. Just did my clear winglets due to them being clear and producing a bad glare. I just did black and it turned out pretty good for my first attempt.

dont do it. It simply doesnt have any staying power, even with the top coat.

I did my tank and front fairing on my 07 Vstrom. It looked good for a couple of weeks, but have some really hot rides, a tank bag, dirty, it started looking like hell.

my advice: if you want to change color use 3M products (controltac)

My ninja went from this:

to this:

6 cans of white and 4 cans of pearlizer.

it held up pretty well, and was easy to peel and fix when needed.

I plastidipped some fiberglass fork protectors. It looked ok until I went thru some tall weeds and a little brush. Looked terrible and it was a real bitch to get it off. I ask a body man about it and he said the few times he'd used it. He wasn't impressed. He sprayed them for me with sum kind off bad ass paint (free) and they have been thru a lot of brush since and they still look pretty good.

I used it on the front bumper cover of my Nissan Frontier and it came out flat, which contrasted with the gloss paint, so used the Plasti-Dip clear coat. That looked OK for a while but it has grayed with road grime and will not wash clean.
